ATF filter change for 2012 TL AWD

Has anyone done the filter change? I tried to search any DIY post but can't find any for 4th gen TL. I believe the part # for the filter is 25430-PLR-003. Mine is at 18k so probably don't need to change it right now but will probably do it at 30K or so.

Thanks

Excuse my ignorance but what is the ATF filter? Automatics Transmission Filter?

I know of the air filter, cabin air filter, oil filter, and gas line filter.

Yes it is automatic transmission filter! I saw a post in 3G TL and it does have one. Wondering if 4G has one as well. I think it does and haven't really look for it under the hood. Just wondering if anyone has experience of replacing it.

Thanks for posting the schematics! I guess i need to crawl under the car and remove the plastic cover to see it. Does it need to be changed at certain miles? Hard to change?

For our TL, it is a supposedly a "non serviceable" filter.
Any reason you feel it needs to be changed?

When it goes bad ,it makes an annoying gurgling sound...
I had it replaced under warranty....

What I meant was that it is not a maintenance item like transmission filters from other makes.

James,
My advice would be; change your ATF at 25000 miles (no need to change that filter at 25000 Miles). Change your ATF again at 50000 miles with the filter as well. (For some maybe overkill)

I'm old school and anal about lubricants, oils and filters. These items are cheap and cars are expensive.

Btw. I know this filter does not have to be serviced, nevertheless it is a filter that partially takes care of metallic particles.

There are several threads on this forum that discuss this topic. Contrary to what Acura states, it is serviceable (for 6 speed trans).

Arek, when i first start up my car in the morning (first start when cold), then put it into reverse, it will make this gurgle like water or air bubbles flowing. It does it for about 15 secs then goes away. It will not do it the rest of the day...im in sales, so im starting and stopping my car 10-15 times a day. Is that when you heard that gurgle you are talking about? If so, did it do it after the first cold start?

External transmission fluid filter!!!

That was my exact problem. See my thread below were some other members were nice enough to help me out seeing how dealerships have been having a hard problem diagnosing this issue. There is also a sound cloud clip of the noise.

I drained my ATF at 17000 miles. Planning on doing the same at 30000miles!! Yea I think oil and fluids are cheap!!

that makes a world of difference. YES, we are aware we CAN search, and 99% of the time We do "Search" but when there is such a massive amount of information, those HELPFUL people that GET and understand that can make a difference of hours, days to minutes.
It wouldnt hurt you to simply reply with info...many do it!

..."Search"....(SMH)

lets continue to be team players here.

thank you to those that respond with info and not attitude.

We are team players here.
As you, I also have daily obligations and don't have time to retype the same information over and over.
I attempted to help you so you could become a member of the team.
You misunderstood my help as attitude.

A simply search would have given all the info you needed.

I got m Transmission filter replaced yesterday....Lucky I did. They found a battery terminal cover lodged between some parts of the Tranny down there...
It was melted and mangled. Car seems to rub a bit punchy, perhaps because its fresh fluid...nonetheless...Im please. only cost 175.00 installed

I heard the gurgling noise at ~80K miles on my 2012 TL 3.5 and changed the ATF filter at that time. I also started a drain and fill of the ATF fluid every other oil change. So I have not heard that gurgling noise again and now have 225K miles on the car.

Go back up to the sticky section of this forum and read the TSBs for the 2012 TLs. TSB 14-049 describes this "gurgling" issue and how to replace the filter in detail. Hope this helps.

I have had 3 ATF replaced via dealer over 60k. Once it sounded just like bearing going out.
