6MT Orders

6MT owners, I am curious - were you able to find one on the lot at your dealer, did they do a dealer trade for you, or did you have to do a factory order?

July 2nd I gave my salesmen the green light and put a deposit down for a 2012 BWP 6MT. Unfortunately I did not want to go for a secondary color so I was sure on BWP. He said he will look in the five surrounding states to see if he can find one to either do a dealer trade with, or if he can find one in route across the country that could be diverted.

A couple of weeks go by and no news. I call to see what's going on and finally he says they ultimately had to place a factory order. I asked for an estimation on time and he said it could take at most two months or it could be two days. So there's really no way of truly knowing?

I'm wondering if anyone else had to place a factory order. I know they're assembled in Ohio, so at least they aren't being ferried from Japan like my TSX was.

I'm also trying to time the sale of my TSX properly.

Just called him. He left a voice mail last week saying they got a freak dealer trade occurrence for a Graphite Luster 6MT and wanted to check with me anyways to see if I was interested. I thanked him but said I'm definitely set on the white.

Anyways, he said right now it's still "in production" and as soon as he gets a VIN it will be two weeks. However, Acura has the right to push back allocation for whatever reason.

So I guess when he calls saying he has the VIN, it's two-week crunch time.

There is like 3 white ones out in New Jersey when I was searching. Is that too far for the dealer to work something out? I was told by a dealership that all the 2012 6MT that are already produced. They were not making any more from the factory.

Springfield Acura: VIN - 19UUA9E58CA010847
Open Road Acura: VIN - 19UUA9E53CA011520
DCH Montclair Acura: I think this one is sold

Yep - My dealer told me back in april when I was buying mine, that they were done producing the 2012 6m/t.
Also at the time my cbp was the only 6m/t in the midwest....and most dealers dont want to do a trade with another dealer because they are so rare.
Phil - kudos to you for waiting and being patient for the exact color you want, no sense in getting one a little faster when it's not the BWP-that you have been waiting for.
I hope you get it soon.....you will love it!!!

Springfield would not even quote me without me coming in. Although, this is the closest dealer I was not going to play that game. Their pricing is so yesterday's news. You start sticker plus $880 for the long wheel locks, trunk tray something else and nitrogen..... sad and absurd. White

I live in Westchester County, NY and bought graphite luster last month, in stock from dealer. I know this doesn't help you given your distance but there were 6 in the county last month, one being white. Good luck. The car is worth the effort.

Yes, they are really looking for suckers. The Toyota dealer across the street is similar. All Toyotas come with $660 appearance package. Aka pinstripe and door edge guards. The will be happy to special delete the package for $660.

I bought my 2012 White 6MT in October 2011, and my dealer didn't have it in stock, but they were able to dealer trade and have one for me within 2 days. Waiting sucks, but its worth the wait for the white. Love my BWP 6MT......so much fun.

While doing my research I also noticed that. It also seems like they have been there for quite some time now. Unfortunately, NJ is too far away to do a dealer trade with due to liabilities (as per my salesman). The dealer can only do trades with the five surrounding states of Illinois.

It's interesting that both of you mention you were told Acura is not producing any more 2012 models, when so far all signs are good from my salesman. I'm sure he would have been told straight away from the inquiry that it wouldn't be possible to do a factory order. So interesting indeed.

Color is very important, and I didn't feel comfortable going with a secondary color only to regret the decision in the end. Why have it earlier if it wouldn't be your perfect choice?

Thank you!

Wow, that's crazy. I actually got a great deal - about $6k under MSRP.

It seems that the overwhelming majority of the 6MTs are in the East Coast... not surprising with the winter weather you experience (Chicago can be pretty bad as well, but upper NE much worse). Six in your county? That's crazy. As soon as one hits the lot here in the Midwest, it is immediately gone!

Thanks!

Two days is awesome! You didn't have to wait much at all. I love your BWP, by the way.

In Denver. In Nov and Dec of 2011, there were 3 cars that landed in the Dnver Metro Area. All three were spoken for. I decided to order mine and waited from Dec 28 (order date) until Feb 29th. It was well worth the wait. I went with Silver and have the windows tinted. Love the car.

I'm preparing to wait about two months until it will come in. Sounds about right. Thank you for telling your story.

I'm from Canada and dealer told me what one of the members already mentioned. Production done for 2012 and he did not ever recommend to put down the deposit. He also looked up the build schedule and said nothing planned until next year. Not sure if I believe him but that is what I was told.
I called all dealers in Ontario and was able to find 3 that are/were available. Now I am owner of one so there might be 2 more left in Ontario.
Overall was pretty disappointing to hear that can not order a car that I want. Luckily I was able to find one myself but seems to me more and more people are looking into 6M stick and these are just not being build.

I am also from Toronto, Ontario. I bought my 6MT on July 28. They found a car from Montreal and I got it this past Friday (Aug 10)! The dealer did sort of mention they are not producing 2012 any more. I wasn't very particular on colour. So ended up with a silver one. I was surprise, they were able to get me one so quickly. I believe it is true there are only 2 left in Ontario the last I check. Both in Barrie ...

I hope they don't drop the 6mt for 2013. I want to trade my 07 in next year, preferably for a 6mt. Hope they don't dissapoint.

I really don't believe the will. I believe if that were true, Beach109 and others would know. Yet, that was a additional factor in my getting the 12 because it was not impossible. With the 5g who knows although Honda having 6mt in the new Accord is a good sign. Interestingly although 6MT cars make up only 1 to 3% of sales they are are represented here in very significant numbers maybe 20% or so.

I think they will produce 6m/t tl's for 2013. Dealers actually make more $ on the manual vs. auto tl's.
There so rare that they are not too flexible on the price. One dealer last year said they would be asking for msrp!?
Honda/acura should cruise acurazine and see that the manual lovers are still out there.

When I'm ready to trade mine in, I hope I can find a new one. If not I'll have to look for one that's slightly used and certified.

My 2012 6MT BWP took over 3 months to get. It had to come off the production line. GL!

Well, you guys were right.

Salesman called, said Acura canceled all orders for the 2012 TL since they are switching over to the 2013.

No information on pricing or availability of the 2013, but he will let me know as soon as possible.

Off the hook for the deposit.

I just saved a lot of money. But wasted two months.

Aaaannnd my car is no longer for sale.

Sorry about the setback. But I wonder if this makes Acura think "perhaps we should build more 6MTs"? The fact that you ordered one in July and had to wait until late August only to find that none were available to order would tell me that I need to build more of those type of cars to keep the inventory at sufficient levels. I'd have to think there were others in your same situation.

Good luck on the '13. It's a great car and still worth the wait.

But what do you expect? 2012 is the big sales year for TL (after the facelift), and yet for most of the model year the only way to get a MT in most of the US was if you were absolutely determined to get a TL, and manual only, and wait and search, and even then pay near MSRP. And even with all your sacrifices you might not succeed! (E.g. how many California intended purchasers - single biggest car market in the continent! - MT TL actually got one this year? I was looking since Jan 2012 and so I know the answer is - hardly any.) Of course the sales figures are trivial; it's an entirely unfair comparison. If manuals were as routinely available as autos, with comparable month on month pricing discounts, they'd sell 3x more at least. 1-3% seems rather high given the hurdles Acura has placed in front of anyone buying a MT! It's almost as if they are trying to engineer a phony business case to drop MT.

N.b. I bought my MT TL sight unseen - I didn't feel I have a choice - and on the whole dislike it at lot but am trapped with it now. I know many people love it, but I still recommend: don't buy a car without driving it no matter how unavoidable it seems. Risk/reward ratio is too high if you've never driven what you are spending $37k+ on. If you feel you have no choice, well yes, you have a choice, move on rather than buy without driving. TL manual transmission is really, really, really weird. I feel it's "bad" - for me - other people might disagree and that's fine, but don't assume without trying that whatever you like about MT in general applies to the TL. Maybe yes, maybe not, depends what you are after. Can't try before you buy? Don't buy - my recommendation.

The RLX will have a 7DCT so the 6MT's days may be numbered at Acura. The 2013 might be the last chance before the model change.

AXG: Did not share your experience. With the internet could find them, then could have driven them locally and ultimately got a killer price. New for the price of used. Acura is really working to boost sales. The Accord now has a whole batch of 6mt versions so we will see. My point is 6mt owners are by in large the big enthusiasts.
