5G Driving Concerns after seeing new Accord
Gone is the trademark Honda double wishbone suspension with independent corners. (Buy all the PR crap you want, this is purely a cost-saving measure.)
Will Acura release their next generation TL without DWB since the platform is now MacPherson ?
This would be a new level of snubbage to the enthusiast following.

Acura's PR has explicitly stated that the new RL will retain DWB. I'd be very surprised (and disappointed) if the TL went to Mac Struts with the 5G.

Separate platforms?
Besides, plenty of vehicles do well with MacPherson struts. BMW anyone?

If the Accord got rid of it, my guess is the TL will, too. I anticipate people will begin to jump ship if that happens...

Oh dear, how will the new TL look like? 2014 Accord

i'm not sure how i feel about this new accord...wait, it's the hybrid...don't some hybrids have a bit of an odd look to them?
acura please don't mess up the redesign on the TL(X).

Yikes. That is a hot mess.

The front looks like a cosmetic surgery that went failed.

Safety Car
The rear looks fine. Front end looks too busy and I hope those aren't the actual stock wheels.

I'm also not a huge fan of the front end or the wheels, but overall, I like the stance a lot. It is much more aggressive than the other cars in this class and further distances itself from the horrible Camry designs of recent.

And the Accord is not a copy of the Koreans. It looks like an updated 1998 - 2002 Accord ![Doh](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/doh.gif)
If anything the Sonata was a copy of THAT.

see, this is why I have no brand loyalty. When its time for a new ride, I try them all and get the one that fits my needs best, no lost sleep over what Honda decides to do or not do. Someone else will make what I want. That said, I like the photos of the new Accord (non hybrid version)

And agreed on the 5G. Sadly, I may have another car by then. I was hoping they'd release the 5G this year.

Summer is Coming
That is a picture of the Plug Electic Hybrid which for some reason manufacturers feel they need to make as fugly as possible. Why can't they just make it normal???? The ILX Hybrid is a very nice looking 'normal' car. Anyway, here is a pic of the mainstream car (via ToV). Honda has a winner with the new Accord and it will sell very well struts or DWB, it will sell.
Too early to tell if the TLX will have DWB or struts. My BMW had struts and handled like it was on rails. Either way the TLX will sell based on other features and won't be held back by the type of suspension. That may sway a few away but other features will bring in more. It is a trade off like just about every other feature in a car. The struts saved a little money but also allowed interior space to be larger while the car got smaller on the outside as will the TLX.

For any headlight aficionados, the good sign for TL fans is that the RLX won't likely be exclusive with LED headlights for very long. Look closely at the Accord hybrid - those quad headlights consist of four lenses in front of diodes. The Touring version of the sedan gets LED headlights, too, per the Honda press release. I would be very surprised if the next TL sticks with HID low beams and halogen high beams when you can "step down" to an Accord Touring and get LED low and high beams.
If the Earth Dreams engine family technology follows the same vision as being the first "mainstream" brand to offer LED headlights, Honda may actually be getting some of its mojo back. I look forward to test driving and potentially replacing my 2010 TL SH-AWD 6MT with a TLX 6MT with all the features of the Accord Touring plus ELS and an active hybrid SHAWD system with combined hp rating well north of 350 hp and fuel mileage above 30 mpg combined for not much more than my 2010 sticker'd at...That is what I'd call my "Earth Dream Come True". If that takes too much away from the RLX, then they can keep the conventional SH-AWD system of the current TL with "conventional" hp around 340. They've got to beat the current G37 in the marketing wars, just don't give up too much low end torque please - I'd gladly give up 10 or 20 high end hp for more low end torque (that's why I bought my TL in 2010 over the peaky G37).
BTW, I had a 335i before my TL, I'm not worried about struts. More important to handling feel, is I hope Honda/Acura continues to hone better feel back into their power steering since going electric. I've gotten used to the TL (there's a little bit of road feel in that light steering if you pay attention); but I have to say the 2007 335 had a lot better feel. Haven't driven a BMW since, but I've read their steering might suck worse than Honda's since they went electric (Honda's had a little longer engineering time).

This isn't the first time Honda has done MacP front suspension... all of the RSX's had MacP suspension.
I put Tein SS coilovers on my RSX-S with the pillow-ball mounts. Easily one of the best handling FWD cars I've ever owned or driven.

The civic Si uses Mac strut fronts, im not well versed in the differences between that and DWB in terms of comfort and performance. It handled very well though.

Biggest disadvantages with double-wishbones:
Cost and size, they use up a lot more room.

I am totally loving the '13 Accord. I would trade my '10 TSX V6 Tech for a '13 Accord Touring. Not going to because I rarely buy a brand new car but in a year or so, I would absolutely do it.

The DC2 was pure enthusiast, and the DC5 tried to get into that keep it cheap and compromise zone.
Us old timers are just gonna have to snag up any remaining EFs, EKs, and DCs that aren't butchered if we want something fun FF to run at the track.
The civic has been all downhill since the EK chassis as well. The EP flopped horribly, and everything since has been cheaper and more bloated with each iteration.
Ditching the Prelude wasn't such a heartbreak ad the 7G accord coupe was a beast with the J motor and a 6 manual on DWB.
Honda is going way too vanilla and trying to appeal to a different market it seems.

The EPs were crap because they were underpowered and made in Brit-land. I've owned a DC2 GSR and a DC5 Type-S and the Type-S is by far the most fun FWD car I've owned or driven, and that includes a 1G Mazdaspeed 3. The VTEC on the DC5 engine is insane with an intake. It sounded like it was going to explode. SO fun.
The biggest gripe with MacP front suspension is bump steer. I never had an issue with it though.
Honda has always been vanilla. It's Honda. That's why older Hondas still look good on the road today... they don't ever try to be too aggressive with their styling, and everyone always complains. Yet, 10 years from now when all of these 8G Accords are still roving the streets people will still say "Man, those old Accords look great. Honda has really lost touch with these vanilla 2023 Accords... They're so boring."
People said the same thing in the mid 90s when comparing those to the 80s Hondas, you're saying it now, and others will say it 10 years from now.
