Assuming the car looks good and has a great interior and cool gadgets.
Would you still buy the car if it is only offered with a automatic transmission ?
For me...a big fat no. The six speed on a pretty fast car was THE main reason I bought my 3G TL. Just wondering what you guys think...

There will be a manual for the 2010 Model
UPDATE 20:06 We've just been informed (from another source) that the TL will be the first vehicle to get SH-AWD with a 6-speed manual transmission, but the 6MT version won't be available until the 2010 model year. The rest of the information seems pretty solid for the moment.

How do you know this? Are you a dealer? I'm actually pretty interested in 6MT + SH-AWD and there probably a ton of others on this site since we're all enthusiasts. Any way you can confirm this?

As much as I like MT, I will still buy a AT because of convenience. I would really like for the new TL to have a 6AT or 7AT. Time for Acura to play catch up

I think Honda should just get AT from gearbox suppliers, like what most other companies are doing, instead of designing/making them in-house. There are so many gearbox suppliers to choose from, namely, Jatco, Aisin, Getrag, ZF, etc. I guess Honda just prefers making things themselves.

If the 09 has the same slow 5 speed automatic as the 08 TLS it will be another BIG mistake from Honda/Acura. The paddle shifters are real slow. They should get the trans from somebody else. The DSG trans won't be out the first year. MAYBE??? they will offer a 2010 Acura SH-AWD TL Type-S with either a 6 speed DSG auto or a 6 speed manual.
The ONLY way I would buy an auto in the 2009 is if it had 350+ hp. AWD and 300hp with an automatic will be a dog compared to everything else out there. I wouldn't mind a 300hp RWD.
I have been WAITING to find out what this 09 will offer. I did some surfing today and saw some bad pictures of the 09. Honda/Acura is FK'N up. That thing is ugly.
TOO bad they didn't make it look like a modded 08 TL-S with SH-AWD and a turbo 3.5 liter with 340hp and a good 6 speed auto or manual.
Looks like the BMW 135i manual will be my next car. 0-60 4.7 seconds. And it has a manual.

This is a pointless question on an enthusiast board.
What I mean is the proportion of dyed-in-the-wool, hardcore MT drivers here is MUCH higher than in the general TL owener populaiton.
The only questions Acura needs an answer to are:
- What % of TL sales are MT? (I am guessing around 5% - 10%)
- How many of those would we lose if we only produce AT (I'd guess 1/2 or less)
- Can we sell enough NEW AT buyers to cover the loss (say, 2.5% - 5% of cars sold)?
If the answer to the last question is "yes", the business case for an MT is significantly weakened.

Infiniti is on the same boat - G35x doesn't come in MT.
For a big car like a TL or RL I wouldn't mind DSG-like transmission. I really do hope that Honda is working on a DSG or a fast 7-speed auto (i.e.: ZF).
Anyway- the latest update is a possibility of SH-AWD with 6MT for 2010 (vtec.net).

I personally would NEVER buy a TL with an automatic. I wanted to see if the hundreds of people here who talk about this new 4G TL endlessly would even consider the car if there was no six speed manual option. My gut feeling is there will NOT be a manual ...which makes my 70k mile 3G all the more appealing.

I would get AT for a TL, if i want to drive a stick i will drive my S2000, my TL-S is for me to relax and take people around and still have fun at the same time. DSG would also be nice mated with a 6 or 7 speed automatic so you can have a little more fun than our slow paddle shifter offer on the 08 TL-S.

I will most likely get a 09 or newer TL when the time comes in about 3 years

6MT is the only way I'll buy another TL.

I enjoy driving a MT car to much !
But when it comes time for a new car, I am more interested in a hybrid or electric, but I have to wait for a good selection (Honda CR-Z).

If you have yet to see the pics I just mentioned, check out either the 1st or 2nd thread in the 4th Gen section.

If I had the money... probably under a few circumstances:
6AT with paddle shifting and normal gear shifter. The 5AT leaves something to be desired. I'd like a little higher redline and the ability to control shifts better, especially first gear. A true clutchless manual might be nice..

i would not have bought the tl-s without a 6sp manual, and the only chance i'd buy an automatic in the future is if i'd given up on life. i've driven this car in lots of traffic and there is plenty of torque in gear 2/3 and the clutch is super light, so i don't see that as being any kind of reason to go for the auto.
imo sport sedans are ment to have a manual shifter and while i realize most of north america are lazy and like their autos, not having even the option for manual would be a big mistake.

It's stupid to use the excuse "well I got a manual in my TL/TL-S because it's sportier..."
You want a true sports sedan? Then get yourself a RWD car.

And for shear sportiness/fun to drive...I would take a manual FWD over a automatic RWD any day of the week. Assuming everything else is equal.
