MDX Trans cooler kit 06255-61D-316

Looking for information from a certified Acura tech who has experience installing the latest 4G MDX transmission cooler kit 06255-61D-316. Not interested in input from any DIY types.

It appears this newest kit adds an auxiliary radiator to the transmission warmer, the ATF/to coolant heat exchanger. I can't find any online installation instructions for this kit to answer the question.
I suspect it's an auxiliary coolant radiator because the dealer RO shows the kit and additional coolant added to the vehicle, rather than additional ATF for the auxiliary radiator. I also got a hang tag with the installation that says to watch the engine temperature when towing.

Not only are there zero online installation instructions available for your new specific 06255-61D-316 kit, there are no accurate pictures as well.

And that dealer MSRP price is ridiculously high.

However, there are similar Acura/Honda 06255-XXX-315 / 06255-XXX-316 ATF cooler 'kit' instructions (available with a sufficient online drill-down & attached below) that may help answer / shed some light on your question(s)?

1) 2022 Acura MDX Model Series Type-S 06255-61E-315; shows one type of configured ATF cooler system available for that model.
2) 2022 Honda Passport (AWD only) 06255-5EZ-316; shows another type of configured ATF cooler system available for that model.

Maybe one of the above is similar to the $$$$ system installed on your MDX, though you may have to physically look at the ATF radiator to compare?

Here is a video that can help with a visual, if interested.
Otherwise, I'd also be interested to hear from that 'certified Acura tech' to add further clarification.

Not exactly the same install, but close enough to show the cooler is for ATF circulation. The coolant makes sense because the transmission warmer has to come off so there's going to be some coolant loss doing that. I'm just surprised there was no ATF listed since the cooler would require at least a quart of ATF for makeup unless that ATF top off is considered to be part of the kit. For as quickly as the dealer installed it, the tech had to have had prior experience in doing the installation. I was shocked at the kit price, but replacing a transmission would be even more.

Thanks, for the information. It got me most of the answer I was looking for!

Understood.
Not sure if this transmission mirrors what you have; however, it will give an idea of the cost for a used 2024 MDX 3.5 AWD 10 speed automatic with 2K miles.
$2,294.99+350 shipping before labor to install.

I got an answer regarding the ATF cooler. The top off takes about 1/4 of a quart of ATF so the dealer doesn't charge it on the RO separately. It's just built into the service. The coolant replenish is 1 gallon so that got itemized.
