Random leg room thoughts.

I love it when a reviewer says, 'plenty of leg row in the second row!' followed by 'not much leg room in the 3rd row - sucks to be them!'.
Maybe you should scoot the seat up a bit then? Are you just a jerk or something?

That's a bit tongue in cheek, but I wish more reviewers would do the 'arrange all three rows so it's decent for myself' and THEN sit in the back seat.
Knowing the 'average' legroom is useful in terms of planning how much room you need - and I believe in some cars the second row doesn't slide forward that much anyway.

Also possible dumb question - Since the front passenger doesn't have pedals, does that person have more legroom? Like a couple of inches?
That would make the 'average legroom' on their side a bit more since their seat could be scooted forward more. The back seat slides independently, anyway.

I wonder how odd/comfortable it would be to have three people in the second row, with one side slid forwards a lot.

Three people in the middle row probably isn't too bad, given this MDX is wider than most cars. I personally couldn't care less about the third row and will have them folded down 99.9% of the time. I'm also only 5'7" so legroom is never an issue for me.

I am 6'1 and have sat in a third row of mid size suv plenty of times. They all suck for adults. They're not designed for long road trips or anything like that unless you have young children who use them. For a quick night out its fine. Since the MDX second row is adjustable you can maximize leg room accordingly

I'm more concerned about passengers in the 2nd row when the center console is removed and the driver thinks he's Mario Andretti.

BTW, I don't think the middle removable second row seat slides at all. I also would probably always keep it in the down position. My family of four rarely has anyone else in the car, so I actually would have preferred captains chairs.

I was playing with an MDX at the dealer and discovered something annoying about the second seat.
I wanted to see how much room there was in the third row with the second seat slid all the way forwards.
I slid the second row all the way up, then hit the button to get behind it.
When I pulled the second row seat back, it went ALL THE WAY BACK and squished me.

In order to do my test, I had to slide the seat forwards, and then get in from the other side and slide behind it.
No wonder you see some reviewers getting squished.

I was testing worse case scenarios. I'm roughly 5'8 and I found I could slide the second row all the way up
and still be pretty decent in both the first and second row. The third row would then be "pretty okay".
I don't think I'd do a long road trip, but for occasional use it would be fine.

Does it help with 3rd row leg room if you flip the center console up or take the console out? Looks like only the inside leg of the 3rd row person would benefit with the center console removed.

It would definitely help, because you can stretch out and sit a bit diagonal.

Joe Raiti demonstrates this at the 23:20 mark here:

You're right about it only working well for 1 person, but if you have two tall people in the back.........
one of them should be in the second row.

Here's a picture of me in the 3rd row with the second row all the way forwards:

It's quite acceptable for an emergengy/limited use 3rd row for adults.
