MDX seat falling apart, Acura says not covered despite being a know issue

Our drivers seat bottom cushion side bolster is broken.

I am 6’6 and 200lbs and my wife is 5’4 and 115lbs. We are not overweight and the seat is falling apart.

A quick online search shows this is a known issue and yet our dealer says it’s $1300 to repair. I requested they escalate they said they would because this isn’t normally covered.

I am also considering reaching out to Acura North America. Has anyone else done down this path for an issue?

Yup, I am also having a similar issue on my driver side... & I'm 6Ft 240lbs.. its not as stretched out as yours on my 23' MDX-S but I am also thinking on reaching out to the dealer just to see what they say.

I found out there’s an open NHTSA ticket on this issue too. Thinking about submitting there as well.

This happens because the driver is just sliding across the bolster to get out of the car instead of lifting their butt up to clear the bolster. Acura will probably cry user error and tell you to pound salt.

Surely this isn't the first vehicle with adjustable bolsters to have people get in and out of the car by sliding in/out of the seat, Acura has nothing to stand on here.

FWIW to others reading this, a potential preventative measure is to program your memory seats to have a setting that automatically flattens the bolsters as much as possible for when you exit. I know people on the Porsche forum did this with their Cayenne's to diminish wear on the outer bolster when getting out/in. With that being said, I have never seen it this bad before, yikes.

Interesting I was thinking about having my dealer replace the front seats under warranty (atleast the driver side front seat) on my TLX Type-S as I feel like it wore down abit too fast for 29k miles

Posting pictures of said premature wear, at 29K miles, would help to see if you have a reasonable argument for warranty consideration or just a 'pipe dream' at nearly $400+ per?

front seat bottom bolster separating from seat

I was having similar issue with my 23 Type S Advance seat bolster, I found the bolster is not designed to have weight on it when you are getting out of car. What I found as an aid to help from putting weight on it when exiting car was to program another memory button for seat to put seat in lowest position and to drop front of seat down. So prior to exiting car I select this memory button to change position of seat. This helps me not put pressure on front of side bolster when getting out of car. This may not be perfect solution but my bolster is not separating from seat now when I exit car.
