2022 MDX price

Can't we all just get along? Sometimes people get a little excited and do not re-read what they are about to post. I think both Elin and Colorado Guy have made their good points but the latter's comments could be expressed in a more gentle tone.

The title is "2020 MDX price" so I'm going to ask my question about that...
First, I'm currently considering leasing vs. buying. I purchased my 2017 and 2019 RDXs (both in the Advance trim) and here I am already thinking about this new MDX Advance — meaning, my pattern has been upgrading often (so maybe leasing instead of buying is a better idea, cost-wise) (although, I keep telling myself I would keep the car for a while...but then don't).
I completely paid off the 2017 before I bought the 2019. I currently have a ~$6,400 balance on the 2019 that invoiced at ~$52K when I bought it in October 2018; odometer reads ~21,800 miles. I am able to pay the car off right now or, of course, let the dealership pay it off. My guy at the dealership worked up lease numbers for the MDX and he said it doesn't matter who pays off the ~$6,400 balance. He said if I pay it off I will just get more money back (right now I would get back $12,000 in cash); it won't change the scenario, re: adjusted cap cost. Let me know what you think about that explanation and the numbers below:
MSRP: $61,675 for the 2022 MDX Advance
CAP cost: $60,675
Trade in for the 2019 RDX Advance: $30,000
Payoff ($6,411.02 + $12,000 cash back to me): $18,411.02
Trade balance: $11,588.98
Rebates/dealer contributions (military, recent graduate, Acura loyalty/conquest): $2,250
Fees (acquisition fee, processing charge, registration/title, "additional fees'): $1,222
Tax: $1,858.50
Adjusted CAP cost: $49,916.52
36 months, 15,000 miles per year; $0.20 per mile above 15K
Residual: $37,621.75
Payments: $492.09
(15% off accessories)
Any thoughts would be great. Thank you.

You are putting in ~$11.5k as a downpayment. That's a king's ransom in the leasing world. Over 36 months, that's $322/month of downpayment! If you total the car shortly after driving off the lot, GAP insurance will replace the car but you will have nothing to show for the $11.5k you put down (you don't own the car!). What if you wanted to get out of the lease 3-6 months early? That's anywhere from $966 to $1932 you will never see again!
Do you know the money factor that was used? I would suggest you lower the downpayment to something more like $3600 at most ($100/month) and have them adjust the money factor so that your monthly payment doesn't skyrocket. You will most likely pay more than $500/month but at least you have less penalty should any of the above scenarios occur!
A warning to all first-time lessees: you have zero equity in a lease!

Leasing sounds like the best option for you unless you are going to be consistently >>> 15,000 miles/yr.

I'm not sure how much lower this money factor can go so be prepared for monthly payments well north of $500 (assuming the downpayment is more reasonable).
The tax of $1858.50 is based on which amount?

I think your money factor is equivalent to a 3.7% APR (MF=0.00153). This is not horrible but probably about right for a car that just came out.

As far as the tax, Maryland sales tax is 6% and $1,858.60 is 6% of $30,976.67. Not sure exactly since I just got these numbers and still trying to digest.

I think it's a bad deal for you. Let's say that you get to keep $12k and the rest of the equity is used toward the drive-off cost. Your total cost to drive the MDX for 3 years is about $30k. That's about $830/mo to drive an MDX. Nah... I would rather lease a Mercedes GLS or BMW X7 for that kind of money or a little more. You buy a Japanese car (with the right deal in place) and lease a German one. That's meager 2c.

Minor detail, but purchasing also lets me avoid having to pay for brand new tags by transferring what's on the RDX currently. I also won't have to worry about a mileage cap, of course -- important, because we may be moving further out from work, thus increasing commuting distance (100% teleworking is going to end eventually).

Hey, thanks. Between your comments and the other gentleman's, I'm beginning to think leasing isn't for me. I might as well just put the entire $30K towards the MDX, combined with a decent down payment and Acura's promotional 1.9% APR and $2,250 in special program discounts. After all is said and done, I think I'm looking at ~$489 for 60 months (with plans to add extra towards principal whenever I can).

The tag transfer is probably one of those things in your state only and not CA. Anyway, that's only a few hundred dollars. I find that if you get a right deal on a purchase, you may end up with more equity than a lease. Let's use a simple hypo: on a $55k car and you are able to work a deal down to let's say $48k (not this MDX early in this release) on a purchase for a 5 yr-term. Down the road you decided to change car after 2 or 3 years, you find out you owe x amount versus the value of the car at that time. It may actually be better than a 3 year lease because the payoff at that time on a lease is much higher. So the dealer always like to use their fuzzy math and stick it to a customer on a lease. If you have to lease check your cap cost (which is the amount similar to a negotiated sale price on a purchase and the money factor (which is the interest). As a rule of thumb for an average car lessor, your payment should be around $6000/yr on a $50k vehicle at 36 months and standard 12k./yr. with a couple of thousand in drive-off cost. Sometimes it's a lot less when there's manufacturer support. If you are spending anymore than $20k to drive a $50k for 3 years, then it's a bad deal.

Acura may still be in the running but that would knock out Genesis and some other manufacturers for sure.

Commenting to follow this thread. I am in the market for an MDX but also can't stomach to pay MSRP. If need be, I can wait a year for prices to normalize.

Remember they probably just got rid of 2020 models on heavy discount or still have too many sitting on lots. A pandemic may force customers to make more rational decisions (maybe).

It won't take a year. The MDX itself has been out for over 20 years. I expect the dealers to come back to reality at least a month from now just like on the new TLX.

Edit: I spoke too soon. In my area, the following purchases have been made according to Truecar (across all trims)
9 sales where some got 2% off MSRP to 1% above MSRP ($57,218-$59,296)
6 sales from 1-4% above MSRP ($59,296-$60,958)
The "market markup" is live. Acura should enjoy it while it lasts!

If I was in the market for an MDX, I'd take advantage of the huge price differential b/w the 2020 MDX and the 2022 version.
In my area, there are 2020 MDX SHAWD w/Tech that are selling for nearly the negotiated price of my 2021 TLX SHAWD A-Spec!

Truecar is one of the better sites for what people are paying for your specific region but as noted earlier, it will be weeks before that purchasing data becomes public.

Then I guess it works to the benefit of someone who put a $500 deposit now but the car won't be delivered from the factory until about a month from now. They have the right of first refusal and can get back the refundable $500 deposit (if they think the market markup at that time is too crazy or unpalatable).

The title is "2020 MDX price" so I'm going to ask my question about that...
First, I'm currently considering leasing vs. buying. I purchased my 2017 and 2019 RDXs (both in the Advance trim) and here I am already thinking about this new MDX Advance — meaning, my pattern has been upgrading often (so maybe leasing instead of buying is a better idea, cost-wise) (although, I keep telling myself I would keep the car for a while...but then don't).

.TAXES.
Keeping simple math, OP, let's say you paid $50K for your 2017 and 2019 RDX Advances. Simple math of 10%, or $5,000 per vehicle in tax. When you traded in your 2017, did you get any of that $5K back? No. Same thing for your 2019 if you trade it in. So in essence you paid $10K in taxes that you'll never get back. With leasing, on the other hand, you only get taxed for what you use on the vehicle...so you're taxed on the monthly payment only. Let's say instead you had a $500/mo lease payment on the 2017 RDX with a tax of $50 ($550 total). After the 2 years of leasing the 2017, you would have paid out $600 / year in taxes or $1,200 total (instead of the $5,000).
With leasing, the manufacturer is basically betting (conservatively) of what the car's value will be after 36 months (the usual lease period). Sometimes you pay market value - maybe a little more, maybe a little less. You kinda ride the wave (although with Acura, it's usually pretty consistent). But the true consumer value in leasing is with the monthly tax. Now, leasing only applies to those people who fit the following criteria (sounds like you)...
- You acquire a vehicle every 3-5 years
- You value the latest models or technology
- You drive no more than 15,000 miles a year
- You have good credit
Hope this helps

I'm jumping into this kinda late, but I was an Econ major and I always love a lease versus buy conversation. ELIN, I could have literally written most of what you posted. Apparently we're a brother from another mother...ha. I wanted to add one thing that a lot of people miss when leasing or buying a car.......

Hope this helps![Thumbs Up](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Car Crazy for Sure!
Let's see....and throw in some Chevy's...a Corvette with that and Z-28, Toyota Supras...one was a turbo version, etc, So you don't even know what the hell you are talking about. Too easy to "sling words/phrases
around when you don't know the whole complete picture. Typical. I express here many..way many years of experience as a mechanically inclined person, tech school instructor, way too many vehicles to list owned,
and a BS in Education. Yes, ELIN, I'm a well seasoned and "edumacated" guy....and fairly wise in my year group. If one is lucky..with age comes lots of learning and understanding, which for those much younger can't
match....meaning....just due to the many years of "absorbing life, knowledge, experiences and formal education." I don't have a mean bone in my body...not an egotist, or narcissist. Push me...in person, and I'll be your worst
enemy. It's too easy for those that are "key board bad guys." Since I have such an eclectic....you can look that up!.....background, I am lucky in that respect. Am I always right or correct??....NOT HARDLY. No one is.
Including you my young antagonist. Oh, squeezed in my many yrs. of experiences, I worked in law enforcement. Can't tell you where or what...if so I'd have to...well you know? I faced full blown gang members in So. Cali,
and I never backed down. My back up hadn't arrived yet. But, the gang member backed down. Guess he thought I was not someone he should mess with..unless of course....he had 3 or 4 more members with him.
And he was one scary looking dude. I just didn't let him know that. Mind games. Know how to use them. I stared him down and basically dared him to go for it, after he said he was going to "kick my ass." I never
stopped staring into his eyes. What did he do?....He walked away with his tail between his legs....hid out....back up came, I tracked him down, made the arrest, smiled at him as he was put in the car. He was a wanted felon.
So, what's all this supposed to mean...you ask? You're a jerk, and you don't scare me one bit. And, I can still kick your ass at my age. My son's a cop. Medal of Valor, Crime Commission Officer of the Year...and one bad dude,
when he needs to be. I wouldn't mess with him. 6'3" 220, lean and strong. Guess my genes passed on quite well.
My Mustang GT, Performance Package car is so damn cool. Fun. And, my Acura MDX Adv. is damn cool too. Had my hands on an Advance. Wife did too. We loved it. Hmmm..does that make me now an Acura fan boy? LOL!!
I don't know what to call my son then..in the car world. He owns a Ferrari, Corvette, and an AMG Mercedes. No not new...but, all damn nice. No, not on his L.E. salary. He owns a business with a partner. A very profitable one.
Not sure what you'd like to call him, but, he'd be glad to meet you and hear your punk ass BS! Your face would be in the dirt so fast, you'd be crying...Mommy, help me!!!
We're on here to pass on experiences and to share, learn, hopefully help out, etc. You are on here to be...an ass. Plenty of sites for "those skills" since that is about the only one you want to promote here. So, you can sit behind your

You are nothing to me. YOU set that up with your BS rhetoric and garbage mouth. Be useful here IF you know how. Otherwise, you just show others how much of a jerk you are.
So, I'm moving on from you, since you have now wasted enough of my time. You have shown us all what you are...we've had our words....I won't bother myself any longer with your wasted BS crap.
I'll save my time for those that have some damn brains in their heads.

What's a typical Mustang owner? How would you know??? I just parked my 12th one in the garage this week. But, gee...am I a "typical Honda Motor Corp. owner too!!!!!" I've owned over 20 Hondas and Acuras!!

Three Wheelin'
OK, that is funny AF.
For the record, I haven't followed everything in this thread, but the Mustang GT is a badass ride. I can appreciate the ruggedness of my Jeep Gladiator and the sophistication of our MDX(s). To be honest, I kinda need both types of vehicles (I think I'd be bored with only having one or the other - and our active lifestyle dictates that).

I heard from my dealership today saying the 2022 MDX Advance in Fathom Blue Pearl (Graystone) I put a $500 deposit towards has been built and looking to arrive next week. I still need numbers for purchasing to be worked up (as I mentioned before, they've given me some numbers for leasing -- which a couple of you broke down for me, resulting in my leaning away from leasing).
Though I qualify / was approved for 1.9% APR and the $750 military, $500 college graduate, and $1,000 Acura loyalty / conquest discounts, I'm very interested in seeing how much or whether they will move from MSRP, especially since I've bought brand-new 2017 and 2019 RDX Advances from them (talk about true "loyalty" to their particular dealership, right?).

Will they honor or give you a guarantee on Loyalty and 1.9% as those expire on 3/1 unless they extend for another month, guessing military and college grad also expire 3/1. I am in the same boat, mine is built with an eta of 3/12. Considering doing the paperwork before it arrives but going to contact dealer this weekend or Monday to see if these have been extended.

Did you special order it or just claim one that was coming anyway?
I want to special order a type-s but since I am coming to them will want them to do it at MSRP or less. I always thought you do the deal upfront and then they place the order, vs the other way around - which can lead to more unscrupulous practices such as shopping your special order to others...

Besides, I'm in a position of advantage in that if I don't like the numbers they show me, I have a perfectly nice low-mileage 2019 RDX Advance that I can just keep driving for a while (and they know that). And they know I do my research...lol. I do trust those guys, though. Been treated very well while I was in the thinking about it and buying process and post-sale (great service department).

I think we all know that if I don't grab that extremely nice 2022 MDX Advance in Fathom Blue Pearl next week, it will be "next guy up," anyway, and it'll be gone immediately.

Those dates always get extended. Went through that with my 2016 rdx. Also that vehicle was ordered as well as my 2022 mdx. I got the $1000 loyalty, $750 military, and $1000 off sticker as well as top trade in on my rdx

No, I didn't special order. Back in October when the 2022 MDX Prototype was revealed, I contacted them and just told them I was loving what I was seeing and to let me know more details when they become available. Fast forward to launch day on February 2nd -- I had a convo with the guy who sold me my last two Acuras and he told me he has what I'm looking for coming soon. I think it might be one of their allocations. He encouraged me to put the $500 deposit even as I mull things over because I have the first right of refusal and can get a 100% refund of the deposit.

Anyone know if dealers are still adding 5-7k?
There are a couple of dealers in Socal that seem to have quite a few of them just not sure how quickly they're moving them.

I was under the impression you can't special order an Acura like you can with other luxury manufacturers. Your dealer can place a request and hope they get something close to what you're looking for, but you can't build a car with the specific color, interior, trim, options, etc. and actually have one earmarked for you from the factory.
That said, I don't know if they even know what colors the Type S will come in yet.
I was expecting to pick out all my options and stuff like I do when I order my other vehicles... And have it come from the factory exactly as I want it.... But I guess Acura doesn't work like that.
