Question 2022 MDX Advance ELS Audio > Poor or Lack of Bass

First time owner of a MDX Adv. Not sure if I have a defective ELS Premium audio system but there's very little or lack of bass. Is there any suggestions or solutions from other 2022 MDX Adv? Something I need to adjust? High Treble and Mids but bass is disappointed as if it's non-existent. Appreciate it and look forward to other opinions! TIA!!!

Tested w Android Audio Spotify

Good, solid bass requires a sealed cavity for resonance. Unfortunately, SUV's are not cars. The trunk of cars can function as a sealed cavity for decent bass generation. But the trunk area of the MDX is wide open, and not sealed. As a result, the bass response on the MDX is poor. Other than the bass response, the ELS sound system is very good.

The only way to get excellent bass on the MDX is to fabricate a sealed box to house the subwoofer speakers, or just better bass by installing compact powered enclosed subwoofer such as the Kenwood KSC-SW11.

Thank you so much for the reply! I was taken back with the lack of bass with the ELS System. I have an Audi SQ5 (smaller SUV) but the B&O system bass shakes the car at half volume. Even my Sorento Harman Kardon thump much heavier with the bass response.

You mentioned a small compact subwoofer. The enclosed ones that can fit under the seat? You have an recommendation of model numbers? What do you use to tap into the White & Red Audio inputs?

It’s because they hid a 6” “sub” in the rear back quarter panel. WTF - great idea Acura.

Adding a JL 12W6 next week in the rear deck.

Looks to be a 8” / 2 ohm woofer

I have a 2018 and with the dynamic bass? setting to high, it has plenty of bass. Not shake your neighbors windows bass, but plenty for those inside the car. Is the 2022 different?

Yes the entire sound system was redesigned for the 2022 models. Whether it’s enough bass for you or not that’s something only you can decide. I have a high end KEF system at home so it’s not cutting it for me. Interior speaker clarity and volume is actually pretty decent but the bass is lacking and I now see why. Low quality paper 8”woofer buried behind a panel in the rear isn’t going to do it in a car this size.

Agree on clarity and volume is pretty decent. Disappointed they used a low quality woofer. Can I swap that out with another 8-inch woofer works well with the factory amp?

Does the stock amp output sufficient power where these sound much better with lows? Is there a kicker that fits?

Anyone upgraded their MDX 2022 stock sub yet with these or similar?

Just tried it with this 8” / 2 ohm / 97 sensitivity woofer. Sounds worse. Not enough power from amp. Getting my slim JL 12” box next week to lay in the cargo cut out (fits perfectly btw).

SOrry to bother you. Which cargo layout? Or where you plan to conceal it? I am assuming you will use an external amp but where do you plan to tap into for the R/L amp inputs?

remove the factory 8”, use those speaker level outputs to a line out converter, plug the RCAs into the amp, then connect the sub to that amp.

The cargo cutout, you are talking about the left side when you are looking at the trunk from the rear?
Can you provide the model # of the JL Box?

Oh no in the middle…the volume isn’t going to be enough in the side areas. Lay it down in the middle cut out and point it up.

Cool..thanks. was browsing around and found these min-amps for driving sub-woofer. may be able to add a piece of plywood to that hole and mount it there and hide.

These are regular sized amps: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_120/Al...ers.html?&pg=2

Niiice. Those are tiny - that Alpine one looks great. I really want the remote bass control knob so I’m going to try an fit my JL JX500/1 in there, but it’s going to be tight. Taking out the 8” and putting the amp in that hole is my plan.

Where are you getting the power for the amp from? are you running a wire all the way to the battery?

Yeah unfortunately that’s the only option. 8 gauge at least, 4 is better.
