winter tires to summer tires
hello,
where do you guys go to switch from winter to summer tires?
do you take it to acura dealership or elsewhere?
Mabye a better question is, where should I not take the TL for the seasonal tire switch?
i'm thinking of Frisby tires; I just want to make sure I take it to someone who gives a damn about the car, and understands the subtleties of the TL.:detective
thanks

To clarify - Are you talking about switching tires in the sense of complete wheels and tires (like people that use a separate set of wheels in the winter to reduce wear and tear on their nicer wheels)? Or, do you mean switching tires on the wheels that are already on your car?
I think most people here that run a different summer vs. winter setup are also running different wheels, not switching tires on the same wheels. Not that you couldn't do this, it's just extra effort.

I have seperate winter wheels and tires, so I just swap them myself. Having a air compressor and impact wrench makes it a breeze.
If I have to get new tires I tend to go to Discount tire, as they typically charge only $10 per wheel to swap tires. Now, if they have to be balanced its a couple dollars more per tire.
I would suggest getting a dedicated set of winter wheels if possible. In the long run you'll spend more money getting the tires swapped every spring/fall, and alot less likelihood of getting scratches from frequent installation on your nice wheels.

ok,
yes, I meant removing winter wheels (tires with steely rims) for the "summer" acura wheels (tires with 17inch alloy).
I just heard horror stories about taking the car into shops and they would not respect the wheels, sensors, or the car itself. Mabye I'm being anal about it.
Just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
thanks d

^ In that case, do it yourself. It doesn't get much easier than changing wheels. Then you can be sure things are done carefully and to proper specs. In most cases, you'll never find somebody that's going to treat your car as well as you do.

In that case just remove the wheels yourself and make sure you mount the summer lugs using a cross pattern and torque the lugs to 90 ft lbs.
I usually jack up the side of car and change the wheels per side, as opposed to per axle. This insures that the car cannot roll at all. Of course use jack stands in addition to the hydraulic jack for safety.

tire size?
hey guys, i have an 04 TL and as you know it has 235/45/17. i have a friend who has 205/60/16. these tires are the same bolt pattern so they will fit. just wanted to know if thats recommended or not to jump from 235 to 205? will it conflict with the brakes and speedometer or anything?
