Where on the sensor does a TPMS sensor get its reading from?

I feel like an idiot asking this but i'm going to.

On the TPMS sensor is there an external hole that measures pressure?

I am getting new tires next week to replace the ones on my aftermarket rims (no sensors) and the TPMS error message is driving me nuts.

I ordered new OEM sensors along with a strap kit and i am not sure if i need to modify the valve on the new sensor or if i need to do anything to make them 'read'.

Looking at this picture the sensor is just strapped with the cap removed: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-97/pics-banding-tpms-rim-629127/

Am i over thinking this?

They just get strapped to the wheel and it doesn't matter whether valve cap installed or not as all the "ingredients" are located inside the sensor portion.

They also make other type of adaptors rather than straps.
