What's your favorite tires for the TL?
#2
This thread could actually turn out to be a good poll. I am very interested in seeing the results of this. I didn't vote as I don't have my TL yet and have no basis for an opinion. All you vetern TLers get to voting .

i like bridgestone s03 pole positions. very sticky tire and great for summer driving. sucks for the winter tho. a cost effective tire is the kumho mx which is another summer tire with great traction at a cheaper price. for all season i would get the kumho asx which is a bargain at under 100 bucks a tire. most people here will say michellin is the best but at close to $200 a tire some might not be willing to shell out the extra dough.

You got it!

Too bad you can't add to polls after 5 minutes. The Falken ZIEX ZE512s are great tires (review to be typed after I drive in some rainy weather....) So answer is "other". I'm also a fan of the Dunlop SP Sport 5000s, those are great all-season "ultra-performance" tires, as I've mentioned numerous times on this board already.

I would definitely go with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for a summer tire but I live where it snows a lot and need all season traction. Therefore I have Dunlop SP Sport 5000's that I will put on as soon as my car comes in. I would switch to dedicated snows but I've run out of space to store them. I have snows for my Mustang GT Convertible which I have used as a daily driver for 8 years.

Tirerack reviews
How accurate are tire rack reviews? What do you guys think?
In the Ultra High-Performance All-Season, it rates Pirelli PZero Nero M/S as number one, followed by Michelin Pilot Sport M/S, then Continental ConitExtreme Contact.
In the Grand-Touring All-Season, it rates Bridgestone Turanza LS-Z as number one -- is it really that good?
The only thing I'm sure of is their rating Bridgestone Turanza EL42 as number 35 out of 37 tires in the Standard Touring All-Season!

I'm looking into selling my updated EL 42's that came with the car for a better all season/winter tire. First thing I did after a week/100mi was buy Falken Torque 5 rims and put Falken ZIEX's (17) on. Put the OEM wheels and tires in the basement.
If in fact the EL 42's are that bad in snow traction (I live in the Detroit area, not much snow but occasional big storm and usual snotty/icy roads) I want to trade in (if possible) my almost new EL 42's for a better tire for the OEM rims. I usually change over in late November, early December and use the OEM rims/tires until March or so.
I'm thinking of just putting another set of Falken ZIEX's on, but your opinions/experiences here will certainly help me decide what to do. I don't want to spend more than $150/tire. Gotta call my tire guy on prices on the Dunlops et.
Thanks,
Craig

I bought some used rims with these tires on them. I've only driven on the stock tires, but these are awesome compared to the stock tires! With that said, I would never pay $250 a piece for tires! My next set I'll probably try Toyo TS1's.

Just took off the EL42's and put on Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymetrical. Boy, what a difference. The Dunlops actually ride a LOT smoother. Seems tar strips and freeway joints are much less noticeable. Turn in seems similar. They might possibly be just a little bit noisier, due to the much more aggressive (and very cool looking) tread design. I didn't drive the EL42's in the snow but these Dunlops look like they'd really do the job.
I would have gone for Goodyear Eagle F1's if I could use a summer tire only but I live where it snows plenty and need the all season traction. I'm tired of messing with dedicated snows from my Mustang GT...............which I still have.
