Vauge Steering

When im taking high speed sweeping overpass bridges, or other higher speed, low-torque turns the steering sort of floats....like one minute your using some strength to hold the wheel in the turn, then for a second, there is no resistance, then it grabs again...not sure how to describe it, but its sort of annoying.

05 TL, anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Try it without VSA on and see of you have the same experience.

**disclaimer** I am not responsible if you smack an overpass wall and total you car or get injured.

There was an old thread about this, probably around '06. I think it was something to do with the variable assist.

I'm assuming the fluid is at the proper level and free of bubbles?

I feel like my TL has done this since the day I bought it in 2005.

yeah doesn't the power steering pump have two different pressures for steering feedback? You could be flirting on either side of that at times...

Either way, jack the front end up, take the PS reservoir cap off, and turn the wheel back and forth with the engine running...it'll help burp the system just in case.

I think it was something like that. More assist at low speeds and less assist at higher speeds. As far as I know, it's not a true speed proportional system, just a couple steps as you mentioned but I might be wrong.

Well guys, I wish it would've been the PS pump.

On my way to work this morning I turned out of the neighborhood only to have my front right suspension completely buckle.

I had recently had the ball joints done and I guess one of the techs didn't do something right and the joint slipped out of the A arm. No idea how it can fuck up that bad, but Acura is going to replace that, the CV boot that got torn up, and repair the front fender since its completely out of whack.

Thanks again for all the input!

I've been there before. My car had the subframe replaced and they used a nut without the flange on it so the new bolt was smaller than the hole in the control arm. Only gravity was holding it together. I was driving 50mph in heavy traffic and took a right onto my residential street and it let go right as I was completing the turn. We were so lucky it let go at 15mph and not seconds earlier in traffic at 50mph.

Make sure they replace the whole axle and not just the boot. It will never be the same again. Mine spilled its balls all over the road so it was easy to get them to replace it. Thoroughly inspect the rack. It's fragile and this type of failure can damage it. If the steering feels tight or loose or sloppy I would get it replaced. Too tight is the most common symptom when they're damaged. I got them to replace mine without question without proving its bad.
