TPMS programming
TPMS programming
I just picked up a set of 2008 Type S wheels in great condition and they left the TPMS sensors in the wheels. Can I just install the new wheels on my 06 and the TPMS will pickup the new sensors or do I need to have the new sensors programmed to the car? I rather not dismount my old tire to pull my old sensors and then re-install on the Type S wheels.
I also have a 08 Civic and I know they require a trip to the dealer to have new sensors programmed to the car. Wondering if the acura sensors required a dealer visit also. If so, I might be cheaper to have the sensors swapped and that would allow me ditch the Michelins on the Type S wheels and install my Eagle F1 A/S...Plus, the Eagle tires are a much better tire IMHO.

thank you for quick response. I put them on the TL and don't know if I like them now. I think they actually look better on the Civic. I'll post a few pics in a new thread.
So if I get some new TPMS in my aftermarket wheels and I put them on...I don't have to go to acura or another shop to get those new tpms units in the new wheels calibrated to work with the original TPMS receiver? I have a 07 TL-S
Just wanted to say thanks Fulani. I just bought a set of near-new "take-offs" from the dealer with tires/wheels for $1k with the sensors still in. American Tire said I needed to pull all 8 tires off and have the old sensors placed in the new wheels for $300. Metro Acura said I needed to have the new set reprogrammed for $90. Thomas Acura was the only correct and honest one who said it should just work unless there is something wrong with the TPMS sensors.
You confirmed the latter and save me some coin. Thanks! I'll post after I swap them out with the results.
Oh yeah, I am driving an 06 TL Manual.

Follow-up....
I took the new wheels to my local mechanic and had the checked for balance and placed on my car. After a few miles, they went from a "58" on all four to the appropriate measure with no errors. No swapping of stems no reprogramming. Foo on you American Tire. And thanks again Fulani.

I had the same experience when I purchased aftermarket wheels and aftermarket TPMS sensors. Put 'em in, mount the wheels, drive. POOF they register accurate readings after about 1/2 mile. No programming needed.
Hey guys, I just put on my new axis hiros this afternoon...I put OEM tpms sensors in them, after a few miles 3 of them were working fine and 1 wasn't...then after about 20 more miles of driving they all went blank and said "TPMS Error" and it also gave me this on the navi screen...anyone have any clues about this? btw i have an 07 TL-S

Yeah, these are actually regular TL sensors from the dealer...hmm, i'll see what happens when I go to work in the mornin', maybe they'll start working like they did before. Only have about 25 miles on them so far.
yea, i put on my new wheels last week with 2 new sensors from the dealership and 2 used ones i bought from a member and they havent registered yet. So I guess the used ones may be damaged?

That could also be a problem, not sure though.

for the record james, I gave you the 2 sensors for free...
... I had 4, I gave you the 2 that appeared to be in best physical condition, 1 of the 2 had a tiny grain of rice sized chip... but they were 100% functional when I had them in my axis super hiros at the beginning of the summer...
like I said in my text message, thats what you get for selling ur type s wheels sensors included, I told you to take the sensors out, you would have 8 sensors to choose from
ps. mine were out of my 07... no way of knowing the part # since part # is not listen on the side of the sensor only an fcc id #

Slightly off-topic but....
I want to install my stock '04 TL wheels (no sensor) on the '06 Pilot. Can I take the sensors out of the OEM Pilot wheels and put them on the TL wheel with any success?

Remove wheel from car...deflate tire...now take a crowbar lengthwise and push down on the tire so that the tpms is exposed from the inside...unscrew and replace...now do everything in reverse...
disclaimer: only do the above if you're a cheap bastard like me.

Blast from the past...I been wondering this issue for now 2 mo since I purchased (4) used TMPS from a member here and installed them 2mo ago when I installed my wheels. I get the CHECK TMPS check light everyday at least once...
Irritating! And I don't know what part # they were or any specs of that nature. I could have sworn they were from a 06. And I would HATE to remove and install tires just for this issue since I am running a stretched set up.

Yep, that's why I decided to just buy new ones to put in my summer wheels. With buying used ones, if they came from an 06-08 your running really close to their life expectancy of 5-7 years. And no you cannot replace the battery in them, you have to buy new ones.
I'm trying to buy just one sensor and I see 3 listings on rockauto for 06421-S3V-A04:

I don't think any of those are oem. I was in the market for 1 sensor also. I went ahead a messaged a vendor on here that goes by AckTL05. He can get oem Honda & Acura parts shipped to your door cheaper than any other dealership parts website.
He charged me $38 shipped for 1 oem tpms sensor.
