TPMS-Do I need them?

Hi,

I have a 2008 TL and was thinking of installing winter tires / rims without putting the TPMS.

My question is does the TPMS light stay on all the time or only when the car is started?. Does it affect anything else by not installing them?

Anybody know any good aftermarket tpms that work the the 2008 TL which dont require reprogramming?

tnx

you dont have to have TPMS, but you'll have the annoying orange light on your dash everytime you start the car.

no TPMS requires programming. you just install them and bam, you're done. they calibrate within a few miles of driving.

The TPMS light will stay on constantly until it is reset.

Any way to remove the tpms system from the car to avoid the light? Or somehow have it think its ok? I presently dont have tpms sensors on my winters or summers and dont feel the need for them honestly. Especially at the outrageous cost for the sensors plus valve stems and then to break down, install, and then remount the tires, I can read a 5 dollar pressure guage lol, but damn the light gets annoying.

The TPMS is a safety feature for our cars and it cannot be disabled

And don't forget the chimes every time the car is started.

As mentioned it is a safety feature and you probably shouldn't be trying to disable it. However if you really want to try - fuse #12 in the interior fuse box is the one that protects the TPMS circuit. I don't know if you will get some other type of warning if you pull that fuse, but it might be worth a shot - if you really want to.

I don't know if the US models or the 08 is different but my 06 up here chimes once per trip with no TPMS and the light is the size of a grain of rice and only rally noticable if you want it to be and dwell on it. I haven't had TPMS in my summers since it was new.

I have a Canadian '06, and its not so much the small "tpms" on the left, but the ding and MID display that you have to clear that is obnoxious, if only mildly so. Figured if theres a simple fix to disable I definitely go ahead and do it.
