TPMS for 07 TL

I made the mistake of putting chrome valve caps on my tires and one of them fused onto the stem. Subsequently, a portion of the tip broke off when the cap was taken off. I am not losing air in the tire and I do not have a warning alert in my car, but would like to replace the broke part.

My question is, can i just replace the metal valve stem on the TPMS, or does the entire TPMS need to be replaced for that wheel? The local Midas where i get my tires rotated quoted me a price of $300-325 to replace the the system, including $98 to "reprogram" it. Is any of this true?? Please help!

Also, one other thing. I will be getting new tires for my car shortly and would like to know if the TPMS must be reprogrammed when new tires are installed?

Thank you all in advance for any insight!

I'm not an expert, but the TPMS can be bought in different parts. You can probably replace just the broken part, but the whole TPMS system in the tire is only $40. Also, they do not need programmed. I bought a set of Type S wheels and put them on my car and they "linked" automatically after about 5 miles. $300 is a complete ripoff. It shouldn't cost you more than $75 with parts.

Here is a diagram of the individual parts, looks like the part you need is only $10 and you can reuse the electronics.
