TL winter mode wheel solution (pics)
After many hours of research and reading other people horror stories with wrong sized rims, i decided i wanted to put an oem honda/acura rim on the TL for winter. Honda makes many differnt wheels however many do not fit due to center bore sizes or clearing the brake issues. I also did not want black steelies on the car as i dont like the look of them. So in the end i found that the 2005 CRV comes with a 16" steel wheel that i found to be visually pleasing, enough for winter at least, and work with the car. I found also the honda pilot wheel would also work but i didnt like the look as much as the CRV.
Just to save everyone the time before 2005 CRV's used 15" wheels that would obviously be too small. Accord rims will not fit because the center bore is different.
It does not matter what you wheel you choose but you need to keep the following in mind:
The TL has 45mm offset, 17x8" wheels, 64.1mm centerbore on the stock rims.
The CRV wheels I purchased have 55mm offset, 16x6.5" wheels, and a centerbore of 64.1mm.
So the fit is perfect and i through on some Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 215 16 55 tires on them and really am liking the setup.
I maintain all the cars at my house and i actually did this research for my dad as the TL is his car and he didnt feel safe on the stock tires, nothing beats a snow tire!
Heres a pic of my car in its winter mode solution!!

Tell me that is a 98 Civic w/ 2000 Si rims??...I've been looking since last Summer for a hatch and all i find is overpriced loaded to the max with "mods' that actually only increase the weight of the car...nice cars
BTW you must have an auto TL, I don't think these wheel would work with a 6M TL / Brembo brakes..

well....as mentioned the TL is my dads and he does not mod his cars. He actually loves his stock wheels but didnt find it be a good financial solution to buy another set of aluminum wheels. These CRV wheels were 66$ each!!!! Oh and yes it is an auto .....i admit it...its the biggest waste EVER!!!!!!
To answer the question about my car....those are the stock 14 inch hubcaps for a 99 hatch. I have my "special" rims for the summer

Good analysis and choice there, I have a 2005 6MT TL and was wondering if the 16" would work with the Brembo front calipers.
TireRack has a 16" wheel winter solution for the 5AT but says "call" for the "Sport" (which I'm assuming means 6MT cause that is the offical Honda desingation for the 6MT in the parts catalog selection).

Really nice post. I have the 6MT so this isn't an option but there have been lots of people with the AT looking for good solution. Your post is informative (you cover center bore, offset and tire size.) and shows the results. IHMO the silver steel looks much better than black would.
Does it look as good as alloys? Of course not, who would ever think it could. People who don't live in snowy climates just don't get it. For a few months of the year it is better to have the car looks a bit "off" than to put it in a guard rail or worse. After having "steel" on my cars for the last 20 winters I would have done so again in a heartbeat with my new TL. The fact that no steels fit the 6MT made the choice for me to get inexpensive alloys for the winter...not looks.
Also, you are spot-on with your statement "nothing beats a snow tire!". It's another thing you have to experience to believe. Unfortunately many folks think snow tires are just another scam perpetrated on them. If they only knew how wrong they were.
Hop onto eBay and see if you can find some bolt covers and stick-on "A" logos. Then your dad will have other TL owners asking you how to get those fancy winter rims
