Post tirerack.com order

Yesterday ordered 215/55WR-16 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 from tirerack.com. Thay asked me to call them back to confirm my order as these tires are "not recommended" for my car. Does it mean that tirerack.com "recommends" only stock size tires (205/60-16) or there is some specific problem about using this brand/size on TL stock rims? I think I saw here many posts about using 205/55-16 (including Kumho) on stock rims...

actually alot of people have gone with 225/55/16 on their stock rims, i believe this is more closer to stock diameter than the size you have posted...

Yes, 225/55-16 would be my choice with stock springs. But I have Comptech and I know that some ppl had problems with 225/55-16 (while other didn't). That's why I decided to get 215/55-16. It will put some extra miles but ~1,500 extra miles total during car lifetime (~100,000) is't really a problem...

I'm just wondering if there are any specific reasons why tirerack.com "doesn't recommend" 215/55-16 Kumho for TL???

Hay maxim5 long time no see!

I am not sure why Tire Rack is telling you that
You could go with either of those size, but I would go with the 225, even with Comptech springs. Unless you read a post I did not see. But haven't seen anyone say that.

BTW I sell Tires now
Kumho Tires

I am going to move this to the Tire and Wheel Forum

Maxim,
The people at Tire Rack are full of crap, I think it just depends on who looks at your order. I bought the exact same Kumho's from Tire Rack last Spring and they didn't say a thing about it. They work great. I considered buying a set of Bridgestone's this year in 225/55-16 and got the same crap you're getting now. Basically they didn't want to sell them to me. Call Tire Rack, cancel your order and buy from Tim, he's also a few dollars cheaper.

I have 215/55/16's with Comptech springs and there is no problem at all. Click on my sig for pictures, they look nice and aggressive.

Hi Tim! Yea, I was busy lately Hope to be around more often now....

Thanks a lot for all the info! That's what I thought - tirerack's just trying to be TOO cautious. Too bad I didn't know that Tim sells tires too. I called tirerack yesterday and they already shipped tires. My next set will be from acura-tl.com

I just put on my 99 TL some 225/55ZR16 Firestone Firehawk SZ50 tires on the stock rime. Got them fron tire rack for only $66 per tire. I just couldn't pass up on that offer. There is no problems with rubbing and they look great. The suspension is stock but the car handles much better now.
