TIRE RACK Question...
TIRE RACK Question...
At tire rack... if i try putting on a 18inch on the TL-S... the recommended tires are 225/45... why 45? shouldnt it be 40?
if i do put on 45 will it be rubiing? if it doesnt rub it'll be a good way to reduce the wheel gap with out lowering..........???

They recommend 45's probably because it'll have (almost) the same overall diameter as the original tire-wheel combo. If you get 40's, the diameter will be smaller which have a smaller circumference of the wheel, and then your speedometer will be inaccurate because it's guaged to the original set.
The 225/40 tires are a closer match to the diameter of the stock TL-S tires. 215/45-18 are actually the closest. With either of the 45 series tires the selection is very limited, I would recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport if you decide to go that way. I know one of the members (can't remember who) has the 225/45 and says the only rubbing is when the wheels are turned all the way and he hits a dip in the road.
I have mentioned this before and I don't understand Tire-Rack.
Each stock tire has something called plus sizing.
Basically, it's the next biggest setup which gives you the closest diameter to stock without going bigger.
Like this.
Stock - 205/60-16 - 25.69 dia.
Plus 1 - 215/50-17 - 25.46 dia.
Plus 2 - 225/40-18 - 25.08 dia.
The 225/45-18 is closer but it is bigger so it should not be recommended.
