Tire Pressure?

I tried searching, but I think the search function is not working.

But I was just curious as to how much air pressure you guys put in your tires. I still have the stock tires and the dude at the tire place put 32 psi.

I was thinking somewhere around 35+.

Depends if you are base or Type-S

Base: 32 all around is Honda recommended.
Type-S: 35 front, 32 rear, again Honda recommended....

I'm running 38 front, and 35 rear on my Type-S. I guess for a base, I would go 35-36 all around. Again, I'm in NYC, our potholes and awesome roads demand stiffer tires, plus I like to feel the road.

PS For low profile tires, the rule (in my book at least) is to go 5 psi below the max...so if you are 44psi max, you go 39.

If you look on your door slab it will tell you. 32psi all around for 05 AT.

Not so on my brand new 08 AT, it's now 32 front 33 rear. Or the other way around, I can't recall, but they don't match. I believe this is to encourage understeer, which is considered the "safer" of the two handling alternatives for most drivers.

umm, thanks for disregarding my post, lol.

You can put a few psi more to the front, but you shouldn't experience 08 TL-P anyway.

^ It's ok, most of us here are set on *repeat* lol...

And I made a typo, what I meant is 08 TL-P you really shoudnl't feel the understeer...once search engine is up, there is a beautiful thread on this topic.

Use what's posted on your info sticker on the driver's door jam. Don't fudge this. And here are some tips of interest regarding putting air in your tires.

o Do it in the morning when your car has been sitting over night in your garage out of the sun.
o If you do not have a garage and no cover for your car (like a carport), do it before the sun comes up.
o Never try to air balance your tires when stopping at a gas station. Driving raises the pressure. And so does heat from the road surface and the sun.
o Consider the north/south concept. Tires facing the north will have slightly less pressure that those facing the south.

I know this may sound anal to some people (the non-gearheads for sure). But if you want to do it right, you have to do it right. Simple as that.

How can you be so anal though? Tire pressure gauges are always off by at least 1psi if not more.

Is the tpms system actually really acurate. B/c it says i have 50psi in all my tires. Btw i have 08 Base TL> I put air in them last month cuz they were down to 27 psi all of them. So i just put air and after each time i check the tpms, to update. And all of them had 50psi. Is this very bad, b/c i can't tell the diff in tire bettween 32 and 50, it looks the same? And here in michigan it snows really bad should my tires be pumped more or less, to get best traction.

There are tire gauges that are certified accurate to be within a 1/2 lb. that are less than $30, IIRC. I bought one many years ago, along with a couple of cheap pencil gauges.
The TLs TPMS is also fairly accurate- most of them are supposedly dead on; a few are off < 2 lbs.

Yes, the TPMS is purportedly accurate within 2 lbs., and yes, the overinflation to 50 lbs is bad. With radials, you cannot see most differences in inflation psi.
Just let out some air until you get to 33F/32R when the tires are cold- have been driven less than 3 minutes in the preceding six hours.

when the system for TPMS starts up, it will display 50PSI, then the previous reading, then the current reading. You have to wait about a minute for it to fully initalize after turning on the car. the TPMS is spot on in my MDX, I usually keep the PSI at 35 in all my tires, and 50+ in the spare.

As for winter, you should re-adjust your tire pressure about every week because as temps drop so will your tire pressure because colder air is more dense. Think about this in February your PSI is 35 @ -15C come April that same 35PSI will now be about 45PSI @ +15c, so you need to adjust for temperature fluctuations. You should maintain the recommended pressure during all seasons to optimize the contact patch of the tire. Over inflation during the winter will reduce the tires ability to grip the pavement through snow/slush/water etc.

Another suggestion is to make this a total DIY project, get an accurate tire gauge AND a small electric air compressor. Do this first thing in the morning, once a month or so, before you have driven at all. Esp. since it's getting so hard to find working pumps at gas stations, so don't even bother.

+1. That's what I do. Accurate tire pressure also helps your car's wheel alignment.

Does any one know what is the recommended pressure for the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position, 235/45ZR17?

I have a 05 TL AT, replaced my tires but got the same stock size. I'm not looking for ultra performance since I just do regular everyday driving. Does the recommended tire pressure change based on the model tire? Or just the size? What is the recommended pressure for this car at this size?

(sorry if these are dumb questions...but I wanted to check with the experts before doing something stupid with my car).

I inflate them to 35 F 32 R based on the average morning temperature (currently around 70)

32 psi, all around. That is what is factory recommended. Don't worry about the different brand of tire.

best pressure to keep is from 32-25 COLD PSI. That range is the optimal for the potenza, I have noticed that the car feels better with 35 PSI than with 32 in my 960's.
