Thumbs up TEIN Basic Installed Finally!!!!!

Just want to say THANKS for all the Acurazine members who has educated me in what springs to go for and what not. Finally I have installed the TEIN BASICS Coilovers.

So far I love the looks and how it rides. It is very smooth/responsive and comfortable. The ride comfort is just like stock but a bit stiffer. I Highly recommend the TEIN BASICS for any of you that is intrested in lowering your TL. Go for TEIN BASICS and you won't go wrong.

To give back, here are some pics I took today to share with you all:

Tell me what you all think.

Here are my old TL suspension

A bit too low for my tastes, but the finished result is nice. Congrats.. and get that camber kit.. the rear wheel in the side shot looks like it needs it.

Thanks for all your compliments guys and I have it lowered about around 2.4inches front and 2 1/4 rear. Apparently the front can go another 1/4inch or so probably. But that would be too much. Currently it is sitting at no finger gap front and rear which is the look I wanted. Handling is amazing so far. Very responsive and I was so suprise the ride is much like stock. Just a bit tighter but not a huge difference. So the comfort is still there which is very important. But I like it low for the Spring/Summer time and will jack up the TL during the Winter Season.

Looks good! Doesn't Tein just kick ass? That is the height that the TSX should come from the factory! Am I right or am I right?

Disagree on Rides like stock.

Am I the only one here that disagree with Ed's comment on: "rides like stock".

I've had the Tein basic since 10K miles (now 25K). The ride is definitely stiff and therefore do not ride like stock. Go over any minor bumps on the road and you really will feel it. You can not drive pass 80 without possibly bottoming out if you hit a tiny bump on the highway.

The current adjustment now is 8 thread up from the lowest 3 thread (measured previously from initial installation). I had at different settings as well (5 & 13 thread). All settings provided a stiff ride. The only factor is the more wheel gap you provide, the faster you may take the car without fear of bottoming out (which I already have done).

Any comments from other Teined TL owners? I had driven the car on stock rims and current volks 19". Not much difference in the stiff ride. You'll still feel a jolt here and there on an imperfect road.

I agree that it doesn't ride like stock. It's definitely a LOT stiffer than stock and than what I expected before. I hope that it will soften a little after they're broken-in.

Is there a change of stiffness when you raise it?

You shouldn't be bottoming out like that at all. I had these same coilovers on my WRX and it was as low as they would go. I never had bottoming out issues even when I got it slightly air borne. If you are experiencing bottoming out you may have blown shocks. It's hard to say without riding in/driving your car though.

Sorry but maybe I shouldn't have said "Ride Like Stock" but what I ment was the ride was amazingly smooth and with my experience I don't find the ride very stiff compare to my previous 2 cars that was lowered aggressively the same way. I find the TEIN's very comfortable and not very stiff. They are stiffer than stock but I don't find a it was a ALOT stiffer compare to stock. I don't know maybe I am so use to a stiffer ride with my other previous 2 cars. But I find the TEIN's ride is not as stiff compare to other competitors. Plus even with my agressive drop I never bottom out when going over bumps on the road. Their must be something wrong if you are bottoming out on bump and especially on small bumps.

Looks cool - especially from that front-quarter angle. The wheel alignment does seem funky in a couple pics. Did you use camber kits?

The Tein kit seems to be the best solution for going this low. Maybe it's a nitpick on Tein, but it's disappointing to see that the upper spring mounts had to be swapped from the stock struts. Seems like the Teins should arrive assembled - especially considering the retail price of the kit.

No problem I am glad I could help. I however, ran into a bit of a financial stumple and went with the S-tech springs just for the time being. I didn't want to but you know with summer coming around and all I couldn't not lower it. lol

I hope to have a set of Teins or other brand on order soon though. That is once I get back up on my feet.

Hey!!

Nope no glasses here!! Is the other NBP lowered with A-spec kit just like mine?? I know I have seen one that looks just like mine one time on Robson Street.

So did you finally get your AEM CAI yet?

I don't see coilovers giving as good a 'ride' like a set of progressive rate springs....

I'd get a camber kit 4 sure if I were you; the handling won't be as good but the $ you save on tires is.

I get a better ride with my coilovers than with the tein s.techs I had on the car. Not to mention I think I have always liked linear rate springs compared to those of a progressive rate. A camber kit really isn't needed with a moderate drop. I have said it a million times before and what a lot of people don't understand toe is the true killer of tires not camber. Now obviously if you run way too much camber then your tires will suffer as too much of anything is a bad thing. However, -1 to -1.5 isn't gonna eat your tires if your toe is set correctly.

2 reason why I did not go with TEIN SS:

1) Cost $350 cdn more here.

2) I am not planning in taking my TL to the track. So the TEIN Basic settings are good enough for daily driving.

But you can't go wrong going with either the Basic or SS's..

SS has adjustable dampening/rebound (harder/softer). While the basic is fixed and only height adjutable.

How adjustable?

How adjustable are the TEIN Basics? I guess what I'm asking is what the range of height is. Stock height to Slammage? or just Lowered height to Slammage? oh and Ed... does look pretty damned nice... watch out for that oil pan though

I checked the SPC website for a camber kit for our car and didn't find one... does anyone have a link? I'll be putting on Tein SS in the next couple months. Thanks!

Min lowering is around 1inch f/r and max is 2 3/4 inch f/r. I had mine lowered 2.25inch f/r and that would eliminate any wheel gap and can lower more if I wanted to.
