Stick with 19s or drop to 17s...?
So I'm getting kind of sick and tired of replacing rims and/or tires due to potholes so I have been seriously contemplating dropping down to 17s to be able to ride on a 45 series tire. Also, I am tired of my chrome wheels and I absolutely love black wheels w/chrome or polished lip. I have a 05 WDP TL.
My options are:
1: stay with my current 19" chrome rims with 235/35/19 tires
2: go with black 17" rims (simple 5 spoke design) with 245/45/17 tires
3: go with 19" black rims (simple 5 spoke design also and keep my tires) and ditch my 19" chrome rims
20s is not really an option cause I cannot validate going up one inch and paying over 1k plus I cannot fathom going to a 30 series tire. that scares me, LOL!
i need outside opinions cause I'm driving myself crazy weighing the pros and cons. Does anyone have pics of a TL with 17" black wheels (preferrable on a 3rd gen WDP TL)? I know, thats asking a whole lot!
thoughts?

Can't meet in the middle and do black 5-spoke 18's?

I prefer a decent sidewall because it helps with rim protection, comfort, and performance. Those little rubber band tires hurt performance.
18s with a 245/40 is the absolute lowest profile I would go with personally for performance and for protection. There is no tire available for a 19" rim that will give you the protection you want without going much larger on the overall diameter.

Gents,
Here is a few pics of my current setup.
After much back and forth (in my mind), I decided to stay with 19s and go black. But my silly a$$ totally forgot that when I first got these wheels 2 years ago, I initially put 225/40/19 (you can kind of see the tire size in one of the pics) but went with the conventional 235/35/19 tire cause it was significantly cheaper (at the time). Its a long story but I guess I answered my own question after all. I still think its good that with help, I was able to talk myself out of 17s. I do think I would have regretted it in the long run. Now that I have my current 19s, I cannot imagine going back to a smaller wheel. The 40 series tire should suit my needs just fine. Thanks for the input.....
