So After the mini meet...I just have too
So basically I went to a little meet today, and after seeing other TL's I need a drop asap. Never did it on a car before, so my question is if I order these springs of ebay (Tein, H&R, Comptech) will that be good if I just install those springs themselves or do I need to re due the whole suspension......Examples:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...Q5fAccessories
(PS Why are these comptech's so cheap from the acura dealer) Is it because it's only 1" or....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H-R-S...Q5fAccessories
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TEIN-...Q5fAccessories
So any pics with the diffrent drop sizes would be awsome, preferbaly on stock wheels. Also if you guys have some better resources where you purchased these from, let me know.
Thanks

just fyi, acura of lynnwood's running a small sale. comptech springs are being sold for $160 - full set. i'd probably recommend doing the whole thing...if you run just springs, it's fine yes, but your oem struts aren't meant for much more compression. it wears down the life of your struts quickly. best to pair them with some konis or something equivalent.
i was thinking aspec suspension with some aftermarket coilovers might do the trick, but if anyone knows a better setup that might even save me money, by all means =]

Looking for new mods
sorry for the noobness but what do you mean by struts? i'm also in the market for a drop setup cuz the rims i'm getting definitely need a drop to look right.

He is not kiding whe he says oem struts will go quicly.
I have a set of use Konis SP3 with eibach and one set of Koni yellowwith Stech springs that may be up for sale. Both these set up are heigh adjustable and dampering adjustable.

Thanks, I like the look and love the handling capabilities, never thought dipping in and out of traffic could get EVEN MORE fun, but im still getting used to dodgeing potholes. NYC sucks, i wonder where my tax paying dollars are going.

People are right about adding lowering springs to stock shocks, not a good idea. But here's my 2 cents, you will get a much better ride if you match your new lowered spring to the new shock, if not you'll get a ride your not expecting. to soft or to hard depending on what your looking for. This is coming from experience, accord with stock shocks and eiback prokit 17" rims, and integra with matched lowered springs and shocks with 18's. The integra lowered more rode nicer and handled better.

On the comments about the OEM shocks going qiuickly .... take it with a grain of salt. A lot will factor into this.
This was a common comment in the VW forums too and when push comes to shove a lot was hearsay.
I did a survey over there and asked for actual failure experiences and no heresay .. I also asked at what miles were the springs installed. Only failures were on high mile cars with original stock shocks. I ran a 2" drop for 30K with no issues.
If you go Comptech your only dropping an inch and if your on a low mile car there isn't going to be an issue. I have 2 years now on that combination and the handling / ride is fine. If your looking for super performance handling .. maybe not the way to go. If your looking to improve the looks & andling .. its an option.
Has anyone here "actually" experienced shock failure when installing a spring with a 1" drop on stock shocks on a car with -20K on the clock and at what milage did they fail ( leak )?

a lot of people are going to say coilovers. So if you want to go that route you have Tein Basics ($800), Tien SS ($1100-$1200), Megans($900) H&Rs ($1200).
You can also go a different route if your lazy like me and never going to adjust your shocks. You can get tokico hp 4 for about $350 or konis sp2 for about $550-600 and then you can put springs with it.

If you want a small drop such as eibach or comptech, youll be fine with getting tokico's off ebay for 280 shipped. so youll end up spending about 400-450.
Theres no point in getting konis and then adding a spring to it. thatll cost you about 800. You might as well get a coilover set up for that much money. The Neuspeed super cup kit was 600 and was a hell of a deal, but they are going up to 700 this month from what I've heard.
Id say it all depends on the amount of drop you want, how comfortable you want your ride to be, and how easily you'll need/want to be able to adjust the setup.
