Skunk2 Lowering Springs Test Fit

Hey everyone, I'm Ray from Skunk2 Racing. Most of you may know us for our various Honda products. Currently we are prototyping a set of lowering springs for the 04+ Acura TL and we need a car to test fit on. For those who are willing to let us use their car, you will get a free t-shirt, stickers and other goodies. Not only that, you will get super-discounted prices on the product we test; sometimes you will get the product for free. If any of you are interested, there's a few points of criteria you must meet.

1. Vehicle CANNOT have suspension modifications i.e. lowering springs, coilovers, etc.
2. Stock wheels must be retained so we can accurately measure the drop in ride height.

If you meet the criteria and would like to test fit the springs. Please give me a call at (951) 808-9888 ask for Ray or email me at rtang@skunk2.com

Thanks,

Ray Tang

I went down to talk to Ray yesterday. I live close to Skunk racing; it's on the way home. . We talked about sway bars, coil-overs, and other TL performance pieces. He was kind of vague on future product development. Most of the staff was at SEMA so it was pretty empty. He gave me a tour. They have a very nice shop. Right now they have a set of prototype lowering springs that they want to test on a stock TL. They want to check before and after ride height and ride comfort. They think it will drop the car between 1 to 1.5 inches. He offered to let me have the setup if I like it. If I do not like them he would take them off and put the stock ones back on.

I told him I would give him an answer today or tomorrow. I just don’t want my baby turning too ricey. But then again it would be nice to be a test car for skunk racing.

What do you guys think???

Why not........Just go for it. Being lowered on specific springs is not rice. Being lowered on cut coils is rice.

I told him I had my heart set on an ASPEC setup. Springs only tend to blow out the stock shocks after about 20,000 miles, his words.

It would be nice if it was a coilover setup. But take some pics while during the testing!!! I would keep them as 1-1.5inch is not a signaficant drop. Aspec drops the TL close to 1inch and most other aft mkt such as TEIN/Comptech/H&R/Eibach is close to around 1.2-1.5 inches. You could save your self around $150 for the springs compare if you bought them brand new. And another $100 for install!!! Go for it!!!

So I went down there. Nice place and I meet his manager. He tells me that the drop will be closer to 2"!!! Then I ask him about signing liablity forms in case they damage anything on my car during the install. The form they have states that I only agree to this test and nothing about who would fix anything on my car.
So two things,

The drop is too low for me. I figure I 'll be scraping the ground for awhile and I will have to replace my shocks after 15,000 miles.

I don't go for verbal agreements on fixing my car.

Based in this I decide not to go through with the test. I'll save my money for a set of ASPEC shocks.

2" seems like it's a lot for just the springs... I don't think the stock shocks will hold up if it's that low.

A 2" drop will eat up your tires without camber and alignment kits. A 2" drop will be fine in the front but rub when going over large bumps in the rear unless they have developed a stiffer spring that all of the competition..

skunk2 lowering springs

well i went down and got the springs installed by ray and it is great. i stay in the bay area, bvut decided to have them put it on my car since i had to come down the area anyways. well it fits great and the ride is very smooth. the crazy thing is that ray thought that the springs were gonna lower the car 2 inches. well after the install, it ended up only being .75 inches lowered and when i got home (400 miles) i measured it again and it settled in very close to 1 inch. before leaving ray also check the camber and it was fine. once these hit production, i would recommend these springs to anyone. hey ray if you read this post i want to say thanks for everything. i will get back to you in about a month like i told you i would and give you an update of how the springs are holding up. thanks!!!

I'm glad everything worked out fine for you SSM05TL. Ray mentioned he had someone from the bay area as a backup. Post some pixs. I would like to see what I missed.

Open an account with Photobucket. Upload your pics to their server and copy the IMG URL. Click on the "Go Advanced" button on the thread you want to post on and when the window opens click on the image icon on the toolbar. Paste the IMG URL and click preview post. Voila, picture posted.

It's also good to know someone else is manufaturing aftermarket parts for the 3G TL. Keep us posted on performance and any probs you encounter.

hey guys, its Ray from Skunk2. I just wanted to let you guys know that I was wrong about the drop. It actually came out to be 3/4". A member from the bay area came down for the test fit. The install was smooth only thing is that the rear strut bolts are behind the rear seat so be careful to all those who are planning to install coilovers or springs. Anyways thanks to all those who replied to the test fit.

here are the pictures that i promised

here are the pictures of my car with the skunk2 lowering springs. my rims are 20x8.5 with a 35 offset. the tires are 245/35/20 and there is no rubbing issues. i also added a picture of my headlights that i had blacked out at rego sport. i figured since i was down there i might as well check this place out since i have heard many good things about them. if any one else is looking at getting their headlights worked on and live around the glendale area, check them out. they do great work. well hopefully these pictures will work.

Nice drop............

Are you using stock shocks/struts? The reason i am asking is because i just bought these springs with tokico blues, new front and rear camber, new end links, new sway new strut. Nothing is installed yet. An I was planning to go up in the wheel to a 19 X8.5 OFFSET 45

Does anyone have an idea if theses will rub. If SO, i got a lot of aftermarket s$%&^ to sell. Anyone can chim in if they know somethin. An i'M CT where pot holes are like people there everywhere. Let me know what you guys think
