Should these tire cracks concern me?

Was looking at my tires and noticed they have slight cracks. 1 of them is worse than the other 3. I actually bought these tires used off of someone on this site along with the type s rims. Going to get them looked at by a tire guy but wanted to post pictures and get opinions on here because its really bugging me. Pics are a little dark but you can still see the cracks. Is this bad?

Is that the outter edge or inner edge and is it uniformly all around the tire in the same distribution?

i think minor stress cracking is normal and bound to appear on any tire over time. I dont believe it'll be a problem unless your inner belts are showing.

I had cheapy falken 512s doing the same thing on my old integra.

Any idea how old the tires are on those wheels? Were they sitting in one position for an extended period of time?

nope its not the same around the whole tire, thats pretty much the worst spot on the tire. but it has a little cracking around other spots of the tire too. and what do you mean inner or outer edge? thanks man

The DOT says theyre from 2007, 24th week I think maybe? But definitely 2007. Not sure if they were sitting in one position. Thanks man

If its not all around the edge uniformly then we can rule out a bad wheel alignment, baljoint or LCA malfunction. And judging by the picture it doesn't look like the cracks are deep as it seems to me just normal weather cracking. I'd make sure your tire pressure is accurate and its inflated to the right psi. As long as the belts aren't showing you should be fine... but I'd keep an eye on it if it gets worse.

i think you are good.. as others members have mentioned make sure you have the appropriate air pressure in all of your tires

and continue monitoring the cracks

i have seen cracks like these on my OEM michelin mxm4 tires. those tires were at the end of their life cycle though

i still think that you do not have a major problem... but it would be wise to continue monitoring the cracks

these cracks are of an insignificant size in my opinion and are located at places on the tire that are designed to wear, but if it really bothers you get new tires

tires rot due to old age if u did not know

edit: what tires are these? are they cheap tires? that would explain the cracking

Hey thanks for reply. Good to hear. The tires are bf goodrich traction t/a. I don't know much about tires. Thanks again

Would hate to buy new tires being that these tires has so much tread left. The tread looks like there's plenty left right?

Looks fine. As long as the wear indicators arent level with the tread face then you should be okay.

Another way to check is to stick a penny with lincoln's head towards the center of the wheel (upside down in a sense) in one of the long circumferential grooves. If the tread is low enough and you can see the top of his head the tires generally need replacement.

chances are the tire shop will recommend new tires just to sell you some. I think the tires are fine, though probably on the old side. From the looks of it the tire is far from falling apart.

This is quite normal for tires for tires nearing their end of life and being on a car that is always parked outside.

I had a set of Michelin Hydroedge tires on our Accord and while they lasted well over 70k miles, they had quite a few small cracks on the side wall near the tread and in between tread as pictured above. I replaced them with a set of Hankooks and am quite happy.

Someone did mention there's a UV or weather protective spray or something made for cars that are left outdoors - like a sunscreen for tires lol. I haven't looked into it further.

hey man. well the thing is that I planned on keeping these tires for like another 2 years. I just purchased them used about a month ago along with type s rims for $500. The guy told me the tires had about 6 or 7k miles on them. So I am really hoping I do not need new tires.

Tirerack said in an article that most tires are good for 6-7 years after their manuf. date and there shouldn't be an issue for dry rotting just yet.

My dad actually took my car for the inspection today and I never got a chance to tell him to have the guy take a look at my tires. Is that something that is usually looked at during inspection? If not I'll get them checked out by someone anyway.

Well by now you should feel pretty at ease given all the feeedback thus car, but a little more won't hurt....so, yeah you're fine. This is not all that unusual really. I wouldn't consider this a 'safety hazard' at all and if it were my car I wouldn't even take it in to have it looked at. They won't tell you anything beyond what has already been said in this thread.

my mech checked tire wear when i brought mine in for a pre-purchase inspection so you should be ok...obv every mech is different. Just call em up and ask to have them check it.
