Scratched RIM on a curb....
Well... I got a scratch on my new '06 TL rear left rim. Does the tire and wheel protection cover hitting curbs? Is there any way to repair it without replacing the whole rim?

I am not sure where you live, but a lot of acura tl owners scratch their rim. It's because our rims do stick out a bit from the tire. Don't worry. Talk to your dealership most of them know a guy called "The Rim Doctor" that can fix it up no problem. My dealership, Sierra Acura of Alhambra has one. He's fixed mine up, and they look great. Cost about $25 per tire.

$25 per wheel? That's a great price, I was quoted $100 in NJ. I wound up buying a new rim on ebay. Hit a curb with mine within a month of getting the car. Now I'm extra careful.

That's really cheap. Does anyone know a place in Orange County that will do it that cheap?

Do it yourself
Go to this site for a lenghty and detailed report on how to do it yourself. I am going to do all 4 of mine in the next month. Autozone has the paint.https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150483

Once I got rolling I was able to do a wheel in 30 min, not counting the drying time from degreasing and cleaning. The clear coat takes a bit longer to dry. You also need to be very carefull of scratches on the new paint, it is soft, my fingrnails made marks.

Paint color
I got the silver color from AutoZone. It is Duplicolor brand. The paint is VERY close to the OEM color. When one wheel is on the front and one on the back you have to look very close to see the difference. The color is just a bit darker. The first wheel I did I painted both sides of the wheel. On the second one, I did not paint the inside rim, you can not see any difference when it is on the car.
I did find another thread on a different web site about paint and they also had silver for Mercedes. You want to make sure you get the same type of paint for both the color and the clear final coat.
I think the other brand of paint I found on the Autopia site. But I did find this http://www.silverbulletrx7.com/wheels.html .
Be careful not to lay the wheels on the concrete, the rim will touch the pavement and scratch. I used a 5 gal buckett and laid the wheel on it. I used the blue masking tape from Home Depot or Lowes to mask the tire and then used a cut up clear garbage bag to finish protecting the tire.
Hope this helps, if the color is close for you I would try it. You could buy a can and paint the inside of the rim and then make you own color comparison.
