"Rusty" wheels. Need some pointers...

I have a problem that some of you might have encountered, although I searched and couldn't find anything about it...

I just installed a set of Ronjon 18" Liquid Graphite Legends on my NBP. (Looks amazing IMO). However, between the holes in the wheels for the lugs, there are 5 tiny holes that go all the way through to the back of the wheel. I'm not even sure what they are for... When water sits in these holes, it rusts the center part of the rotor and then spins rusty water all over my wheels. Annoying! I'm looking for a solution. Possibilities are:
  • shiny, new rotors (too much $ right now, not happening)
  • Paint the center of the rotor to keep it from rusting
  • purchase a wafer-thin wheel spacer to provide a barrier on the inside (I have no idea what to call it to search for it, but I KNOW i saw one somewhere, ebay maybe)
  • Put tape on the back of each hole.
  • Put some sort of perfectly sized rubber plug x20 to keep water from getting in there. (i'll need a bit of help with that one, plus without knowing what the small holes are for, I don't want to mess with their intended purpose.
If anyone had a similar problem, or has seen anyone try to fix this, chime in. I love washing my car, but even cleaning the wheels every day doesn't help because it is impossible to dry the water out of those holes, so unless I let it sit untill it air dries, the problems starts all over again.

Plug the holes on the back side with silicone.

^^^^^ yeep .. been covered before ... remove the wheels and put some clear silicone in each hole from behind. This will prevent water from entering the holes from the front when washing etc and rusting the hat.

What I did with mine was fabricate a small rubber stopper that went in 1/4" then filled the holes from behind up to the stopper . Installed the wheels and let the silicone set then pulled the stoppers a few hours later.

???? Are you asking about the dust shields that install behind the wheel?

these were flexible (i think) gasket-like insert that fit on the lugs and protect the back of the wheel. They have the same profile as a spacer but are super thin and would solve the problem of the water getting to the hat beneath and rusting.
I can't figure out what to call them to to a search. I've tried EVERYTHING.

This sounds crazy but you can also take a cereal box and cut it out to fit between the wheel and rotor. We used to use cereal boxes all the time in the woods as hub gaskets etc back in my 4 wheelin days. BUT, do it right the first time lol Silicone!

Not sure i understand, the rust is coming from the rotor?

The top hat on my rotor is rusted and the back of my rim where it mounts is also rusted. I just sanded them down primer and painted...no more rust 12 bucks worth of paint and sandpaper.

^ That is probably what I will end up doing. Silicone might also work, put it's really just masking the problem. if I can get the hats to stop rusting, I won't need silicone.

It's not just the hats, it anything that can rust will, e.g. the rotor itself and the studs. The Acura resides in a heated garage, but my daughter's car and on occasion one of my other cars may sit outside overnight and when you go out in the morning, the rotor surface has a rust film that has developed. Add a little moisture and during the first brake application there is rusty moisture beige slung around behind the wheel.
