Requesting info on TPMS
Requesting info on TPMS
Hi all,
Im trying to be somewhat proactive searching for places to buy TPMS for some new wheels im about to buy. my question is...
how much are a complete set of TPMS avg cost?
would any tpms work as long as its for 3g tl?
should i go to dealer? or look online?
does a set of tpms work on all kinds of rims like stock or aftermarket?
on some of the wheel sites they offer them but they asking like 350 for the set..
isn't that high?
anyone know where i can purchase cheap?
as of right now, im unsure if i will be buying only rims and tires separate or getting a whole tire/wheel package....but which ever way i go i would like to find a set and have it ready to give to them to put on same time...
the rims that i have right now dont have them and it bugs me that i beeps and shows the tire pressure every time im in the car...
thanks in advance for your help!

Buy on-line OEM from Acura dealer
Part# 06421-S3V-A04 $51.47 $38.60 each
As far as fitting properly on the wheel, that is solely dependent upon how the wheel is manufactured. If the sensor doesn't fit properly inside the wheel at the normal location, there are alternatives to affix it to the wheel. Adapters that protrude through the valve hole or straps that secure the sensor within the wheel.
The following adapters are just for example as I didn't search for the least espensive:

1) i'm not sure where you are located but my dealer in Boston sells these for $250 for 4 of them.
2) TPMS are not specific per TL, but only the ones for an 05-08 TL,MDX,and RL will work. part #: 06421-S3V-A04
3) Dealer is your best bet to work along with the TPMS module your car came equipped with.
4) Should work the same whether its an OEM wheel or Aftermarket. though i am not 100% sure.
Hope this helps.

It's not listed on their website but tirerack and discount tires direct has them. They are not oem but are oem replacement. I know they work because I've bought a set from both places. They charge about $120-150 for a set of four. The prices may be different now, not sure. You will have to call them to ask if they have any in stock and ask for a quote. Hope this helps!
i went to a tire place near by yesterday looking for some pricing on tires and i mentioned that i will be using OEM TPMS on 19 aftermarket rims and he said that some oem tpms might not fit/work...
is this true....anyone using OEM TPMS on 19's?

Aftermarkets, depend on wheel design... The OEM sensors, require that the wheel has a drop channel next to the valve stem opening, that's why the valve stems stick out at a 45 degree angle...
The biggest problem you will have, is if you have 2 or 3 piece forged wheels that are designed to have a big lip... Those typically have a 90 degree valve stem, and are typically reverse-mounted wheels, which means the drop channel is in the back of the wheel, so that you have to have the wheel upside down when mounting the tires. That means those adapters will NOT work on the sensors, because the sensor will protude too high for the tire to slip over it... (I tried to use the adapters, but they didn't work)
For my Work Wheels, I had to get aftermarket sensors (that were compatible with OEM), and had them strapped into the drop channel. I couldn't strap the OEM sensors because they were too big to fit in the drop channel without interfering with tire installation.
The aftermarket ones I got were like $35 each, manufactured by Orange Electronics, and had a removable valve stem, so I removed the stem, which made it easy to strap into the drop channel.
When I was talking to the owner of the tire shop that helped me out, he said that some of the newer 2 and 3 piece forged wheels have TWO valve stem openings... The normal 90 degree one in the middle, and a secondary one in the back in the drop channel, so that you can mount an OEM sensor/stem assembly. You won't be able to use it to add air, but it's there to allow you to bolt in the OEM sensor. Normally it would have a plug bolted into it.
