Replacement Tires
Replacement Tires
Does anyone know the best replacement tires for the HPT tires Acura puts on the 6MT TL. I'd like to get new tires next year to replace the High Performance tires, but I don't want to go oversize or use different rims. I've heard good reports about the Mitchelin Pilot, and the Pirelli P Zero, but I'm still not sure about which one to go with. I'd like a high performance tire, and I'm not concerned about driving in the snow or rain, I just want a good performance tire that's quiet, has good driving "feel", and rides smooth. All out performance isn't what I'm after....just a good blend of ride quality, performance, and quiet. Any suggestions??

Check out this thread a bit more...a lot of people have been going for the Falken 512s and have been really happy. They are not cheap tires, but less expensive than your alternative Pilots and they are great performing tires. I use the St115 Azenis personally, but thats mainly because I have no use for A/S tires here in California.
I replaced my OEM EL42's on my last car, a 2002 Altima SE, with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's and they were great tires. They did make a strange sound on the pavement and took well over 400 miles to break in (I would never have believed that one if I hadn't owned a set). But really good tires.
I'm really not interested in all season tires since I never drive the car in the rain or snow. Does the Pilot Sport come in a standard version or do you have to get the all season tire? Also, if it does come in a standard rather than all season style, does anyone know what the difference in handleing would be? I want a quiet tire first, then performance and "feel" next. My first priority is ride quality and quietness before all out performance.
Here is a link to the TireRack page for Michelins. If you click on the specs for the Michelin Pilot Sport (Max Performance Summer) and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, you will see the tread wear rating listed at 220 and 400, respectively, which means the A/S will last approximately twice as long as the summer tire.

I bought the Falken Ziex 512's over the weekend. Great ride so far. Seems a bit smoother over big bumps than the EL42's were. Quiet at high speeds seems to be either better or even with the EL42's. I bought them from NTB. I'd rather give my business to Discount Tire, but they weren't open Sunday and I needed the tires that day. At NTB they were $127 apiece.
I agree with you. I had the Falkens 512s installed today and they are a much smoother riding tire than the EL42s. I will get them out on the highway tomorrow but so far on the back roads they are smoother, as queit and hold the road better.

Falken ST115 or their "beta" (fk451) tire are also great tires for summer driving. got my ST115's for $103 each + $52 to ship. ze512's at ER are only $99 each.
