Progress Rear Sway Bar = Cracked Mount
Hey Guys, I have an 06 5AT TL, I installed the 24mm progress sway bar about 60 thousand miles ago, and I just noticed that on the passenger side where the bar bolts onto the rear subframe, there is a horizontal crack/split in that mount.
I have the bar set on the low setting and this still happened. I am dissapointed. What do you guys suggest that I do, take it off and replace with the OEM bar? Even if i do that, I still need to get that mount welded somehow. Has anyone successfully done that?
Thanks for any info.

Need pictures to see how bad the "crack" is. it mostly tears. Weld it back together or take it to a shop that can. i was thinking about making a brace for mine or at least thick inserts to stop this from happening.

Sorry, I didn't have a chance to take a picture. I have to get myself one of those fancy camera phones, then i won't need to remember to take my camera with me. I did get it welded though at a local muffler shop at a cost of 40 bucks. The guy said that it was in a bad spot and that it might not hold, so I guess i'll have to drive around and see. If i get a chance later, i'll take a picture and post for you guys.

The Progress bar with stock suspension and the little 5at FSB is more likely to crack the mount than a lowered car on stiff suspension and a larger 6mt or TL-S FSB. Even on soft it's a HUGE increase from the little 17mm the factory puts on there.
Driving style has a large influence on the stresses the bar sees as well. You can adjust driving style to help out. Or you can run stiffer suspension.
FWIW I ran it in the soft setting with the stock suspension except for the Koni Yellows and never had an issue but I paid close attention to how I went up and down driveways and tried not to hit any large bumps that only affected one side of the car. Now it's on firm but I've significantly stiffened the suspension and added a 28mm FSB.

Below is a pic of the welded passenger side sway bar mount with the 6MT 19mm bar. I decide to take off the Progress RSB and sell it.

On the Progress Bar what bushings did you use? Progress supplied or something else?
If you're selling you bar put it in the Black Market; it'll sell quick, I think.

I used the Progress supplied bushings and the bar was installed on the soft setting. I think there is just too many damn potholes in NYC. The progress bar is too big, and the metal support for that mount is too thin. Add it all up, and it's just a bad combination.

The 20 mm solid RSB from MY 04-06 6MT and 07-08 TL-S (Auto/6MT) is plenty big and fun enough for DD. It's cheap too. Better stick to this bar if your mounts aren't reinforced, you're riding on stock suspension and/or the roads in your area are horrible, like they are in NYC.

Seems like most of them are. Too much suspension travel and not enough spring rate to take some of the stress off of the bar leads to broken mounts. I've had mine in firm for almost a year and it's been on the car for 3 years and no issues. But I'm running a very firm custom rate spring in the rear, a-spec in the front, Konis, and a 28mm front bar so the rear bar is not taking the full brunt of suspension forces.

They're the weak link, sure. But if you can reduce the stress on them, they won't fail. Looking at many of the common rear spring rates of most aftermarket stuff, I doubt they're much stiffer than stock and that's not good for handling balance. Like I said, I have a total of 4 years on the Progress 24mm bar with one of those years being in the full stiff position and no problems even with 5 hour track days.
