Plasti-Dip

I've seen some posts on here about using Plasti-Dip on your wheels, and it brings up a question or 2 for me. The first owner (douche) of my car apparently had a fetish for bouncing off of every curb in Chicago, and the wheels are scuffed up pretty bad. I can do a little resurfacing around the edges before I do the plasti dip, but I'm wondering if I should take the wheels off so I can get the inner surfaces of the wheel? Just mask it off and only do the outer-facing surfaces?

Also.....Blue TL with tinted windows....can't decide between the black or gunmetal grey. Opinions?

Thanks

Rock on.

in order for you to repair the rim CORRECTLY, yes, the tire would have to come off.

BUTT, if you're okay with only repairing what you can see, by all means just do the outer surface.

i re-read your post again, and it seems as if you're not worried about the repairing process, but more of the plastidip.
i'm going to get real terse with you.
it's freaking plastidip. plastidip is meant to peel or rub off. this means if you get some on the tire, who cares.
you can rub/peel it off.

and this brings us to the 2nd question.
Its freaking plastidip at 7 bucks a can.
you can peel it off if the color looks horrible.
try black. then try gun metal.

its freaking plastidip. its not permanent. its cheap as hell.
just get out there and TRY and you will learn pretty quickly, cuz you're being a scardy cat.

Ha.....not at all "scared" of it. Just looking for opinions on what it would look like to have just the outer surfaces coated. I've seen some done in gunmetal that looked very cool. Any advice on taking out the wheel scuffs while tires are mounted on them? Wish I had a dremel tool......

^ive never repaired a wheel before, but it looks fairly easy.

Ive seen wheel repair DIYs all over the internet, you can try googling to see if this something you are able to do

My wheels were already curbed when I got the car, a few coats of Plasti dip kinda smooths out the scratches and also to me it looks better in black than stock.

-Spray painting wheels while they're mounted to the car-

CONS:
-overspray all over the car
-hard to get even coats over every surface of the wheel
-overspray all over the car
-any thick spots will result in a drip trail straight down the wheel.
-overspray all over your car
-pain to mask off the lug nuts
-overspray all over the car

PROS:
-none.

Plastidipped my wheels on the car, zero overspray. Trashbag over the brakes. Multiple thin coats, no runs. Even if it did, peel it and redo it.
