Piece of tire almost ripped off.

I was putting air into my tires and noticed that a piece of the tire was almost ripped off. I'm planning on going on a road trip this weekend and was wondering if I should be worried and get it replaced before I leave. I took some pictures with my phone. Any feedback will be appreciated.

i'd get that tire replaced just to be on the safe side. It looks like you caught the edge of a curb judging by the curb marks on the rim.

First off what year is your TL, if you have the tpms monitors. I would monitor your tire pressure in that tire to make sure that it is equal air pressure to the other three. Also are you experiencing any pull to either left or right when you are driving? I would say you should be fine doesn't look like it going to be unsafe to drive like that. But to be safe I'd take it to a tire shop have them confirm you driving on that is safe.

I would replace it, be safe. I'm no expert but if you were to run over a pothole, bump or anything else in the road it may stress it and eventually could blow. Obviously it would just be a flat tire but may as well get it replaced or at least ask a tire pro their opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to be safe and make an appointment at America's Tire Co to get a 2nd opinion. Would suck to be on the road and had a flat. I'm curious though, would a tire store replace just 1 tire if needed?

Definitely. If not, go to another tire store

A good tire shop will recommend you change both if the mileage on the other tires is over 5K. BUT any shop will change one. Recommendation, check the price on the tires on tirerack before you go and take a prinout of it to the tire place. When you go there, get them to match the lower price in the event you need it replace.
