Offset questions...
Hey everyone,
I'm about to get my car in about two weeks..and looking into getting rims soon after.
I was wondering exactly what offsets I would need. From what I gathered on this site....48+mm seem to be what everyone is suggesting. But I also saw some people with around 42 - 42...even with a 18x10 back (forgot who it was).
I'm personally am hoping for either 18's or 19'....by 8in if possible. What is the best offset I would need?
Also...has anyone used wheel spacers on their TL? And would that help the offset in anyway? My gf's dad has a GS300 and he recently just put a set of wheel spacers on his car since he was having rubbing problems.
If anyone knows any info...let me know...much thanks in advance. And I'll definitely start posting some pics when I get my car.

spacers cause the wheels to mount farther outwards, so this will only make matters worse if you are already rubbing the fenders. now if you are rubbing along the inside of the wheel well because the offset is too high, then the spacer will help.
remember, offset relates to rim width so you will need to know both values before making a decision. most times, if the rim is not wider than 8", then an offset closest to 50 would be best. if you go with a thinner rim, you can go with a slightly lower offset or keep them the same as the 8s. now if you go wider than 8", you must get relatively higher offsets (50+).
basically, find a wheel design you like and then check out the rim specs for something that fits.

+45 minimum, +48 or +50 is safer. I have 18x8,+45, with 235/40/18's. No rubbing but I had some trimming to do. I liked the 235/40/18 becuase it is just a few 10th/s off the circumfrence of the original 215/50/17. I chose an accurate speedo over no trimming.
If you don't want rubbing, I would go with 18x8 w/ +48 offset and 18x7.5 w/ +45 offset. I use to have Racing Hart M5 (1 piece) with +42 offset and it rubbed so I had to get wheel well trimmed. Now I have SSR GT1 18x8 with 48 offset and it works fine. If you are willing to get your wheel well trimmed than you can go 18x7.5 with 42 offset. FYI
Hey guys I need your help.
I am ahving a problem. I just put on KMC Floss 18" by 7.5 Inch
wheels yesterday with 225/40/ 18 Yokohama Parada Spec 2 Tires. The offest on the wheels is +42. They look perfect but with people in the back the back the rub like crazy. Here is the problem. They are only rubbing on the driver side back tire. Cutting up the wheel pretty bad. Its just nicking the tire,
Here are my questions
1. Why is it only happening on one side of the car.
2. What is a fender role and how is it done.
3. If i trim the fender how do you do it and how much do you have to cut /sand off.
4. Have people who put on 18" rims noticed shakeing while over 60 MPH?
Please send me your help I iwll post pics asap the wheels look great all problems aside.

I think you need a different set of rims. +42
a fender roll is bending the inside edge of the fender up so instead of a flat edge, it is bent up. you can do it with a bat
or a body shop. also tire rack has a tool u can use. there is a 6 mo wait on it.
trim till it does not rub anymore. i'd be careful cuz you have a bad offset.
i have 18's. no shaking at all. check the balance
bottom line. get a set of rims w/ MIN +45, +48 to low +50 better

i have the same setup (18x7.5, 42 offset, 225/40 tires but eibach prokits) and i also rubbed only at the rear driver tire. i think others rubbed there too...not sure why. all i trimmed was the plastic bumper piece.
Does anyone know more about the spacer question I was asking earlier? Specially, has anyone use a wheel spacer for the TL-S? Stanman...I understand what you're saying as far as it would just make the problem worst if you're already rubbing the fender. But does anyone know how to prevent rubbing the fender so I can add the spacer? Just offset or what?
Like I said, the reason I ask is because my gf's dad who has a GS300 recently added the spacers. And I thought it looked really nice. Dont get me wrong...the wheels arent sitting like an inch outside of the fenders like a cholo mobile or anything. Because of the spacers, the wheels are aligned right along with with the fender, rather than sitting flushed about 1/2 in inside the fender. It gives the car more of a "bull dog" stance that looks really aggressive. I was just wondering if anyone know this is possible with TLS. If it is...any specific rim size?
I hope you guys understand what I'm saying. Let me know if anyone knows anything about this topic. Thanks alot.

don't forget the gs is rwd so it's got lot of room and can take fairly wide rims (with bigger lips) in the rear. the reason he added a spacer sounds to like he wants to widen the track like what lawaia said or he just likes the look. maybe he was not aware of this from the beginning, but if he had bought the same wheels with a lower offset, he would not have needed the spacer. or maybe the type of rims he bought did not come in that lower offset. i am not sure, why don't you ask him why he did what he did... so basically it still comes down to OFFSET! now if you want that flushed look, get a rim with a lower (but not too low) offset. everyone's main thing is to not have rubbing when you lower a car, and you will definitely rub if the wheel is not sunken in far enough. is the gs lowered? but if you do not intend on lowering ever, going with a lower offset to get a flushed look with be alright. but if you wanna lower, you generally want to get the highest offset you can.
one last thing about spacers, these things basically push the wheel farther out so there is less stud threads for the lugnut. if it is fairly thin, then that's alright. but if the spacer is thicker, you might want to replace the studs with longer ones.
