No TPMS: one beep or constant beeping?

Hi,

I did a search for "tpms", "no tpms", "tl tpms snow", "tl tpms winter", "tl tpms" and I am still a little unclear as to what happens. If this has been answered somewhere I apologize and I missed it. Hopefully it takes somebody 2 seconds to answer my question.

I have a 2008 TL automatic. I have a set of 215/55/16 mounted on rims for my Mazda 6. Happens to be right size tire but no TPMS. I don't want to buy an extra set of sensors and pay for another mount/balance until the tires wear out. can someone explain to me exactly what beeps happen and is it constant like a seat belt warning? The seat belt thing beeps and never stops until you buckle up. Is that what happens with the TPMS? or just one quick warning beep and it's done for the rest of your trip until you restart the car again? How many ppl out there with 06+ don't use TPMS for winter? advice?

Thanks everyone.

Have you checked the section with TPMS warnings in the Owners Manual?

(I don't know the answer to your question, but that's where I'd look. Maybe you did already and it doesn't say. ??)

Thanks for the advice. I'll check the manual after I get the car back. It's stranded at my parent's house the last time I visited them in the snow. I was also hoping for some responses from ppl who are already driving without the TPMS sensors to see how "annoying" it is in real world driving.

Well, then, let's look it up:

If there is a problem with the TPMS,
this indicator begins to flash. It stops
flashing after approximately 1
minute, then stays on. You will also
see a ‘‘CHECK TPMS SYSTEM’’
message on the multi-information
display (see page ).

If there is a problem with the TPMS,
the tire pressuremonitor shows a
‘‘SYSTEMFUNCTION ERROR’’
message and the tire pressure
readings are not displayed. If this
happens, you will first see a system
warning message ‘‘CHECK TPMS
SYSTEM’’ on the multi-information
display.

TPMS System Failure

If there is a problem with the TPMS,
you will see the above message on
the multi-information display.
Also, the low tire pressure/TPMS
indicator begins to flash, then stays
on (see page ).
If you see this message, the system
is off and is not monitoring the tire
pressures. Have the system checked
by your dealer as soon as possible.

Changing a Tire with TPMS

....

After the flat tire is replaced with the
spare tire, the low tire pressure/
TPMS indicator stays on while
driving. After several miles
(kilometers) driving, this indicator
begins to flash, then stays on again.
You will also see a ‘‘CHECK TPMS
SYSTEM’’ message on the multiinformation
display. This is normal;
the system cannot monitor the spare
tire pressure. Manually check the
spare tire pressure to be sure it is
correct.

I don't see anything about "beeping". Reading this I assume once the "System Failure" happens it won't beep at all except once at each start up.

Thanks Bearcat94. I don't mind a flashing/solid light but a constant beeping would irritate me alot.

It's a warning when you start the car, then a solid light as you're driving.

ifirahse: thanks, have you or are you using tires/wheels without tpms right now? just curious.

Anybody out there actually using tires/rims without the sensors that can chime in on how annoying or tolerable the warnings are on a regular basis? I guess for me regular would mean the 3 months or so of winter use.

There was a time period of about a week where one of my rims didn't have a tpms. It's an audible warning when you start the car, the same sound your car makes when you have low fuel, in addition to the MID turning orange until you press a button to go back to the home screen. then there's just a light on the dash that stays on as you drive. i found it very annoying.

Very annoying. You have to clear the message every time you start the car. There is also a glowing "I" in the display that never goes away. My car connected to Acura 4x & displayed a warning in the message section. I still have those warning messages & only the dealer can clear it. Might be exclusive to a TL w/Nav.

After you drive for a few miles a warning beep comes on and the large info section says check TPMS. Push the button 1 time and it goes off, but a tiny TPMS light on the left side stays on. NO big deal. But you have to do this EVERY time you start the car.

< These Ronjon wheels don't have TPMS either. I have an 06, the person I bought them from had an 05 without TPMS. I was considering adding the sensors, but it will cost about $200. Sensors for $120 and re-mount and re-balance. I think I will leave them alone, its not that bad.
