New Wheels Nightmare!

Whats going on guys, this is my first post on here. I picked up a 07 WDP TL Type S about a month ago and love the car. I decided to order some new Ron Jon Inspyre 19" Wheels and got them on the car Thursday. Just my luck, I'm driving down rt 280 and hit a pot hole Friday night, blew a tire and bent a rim! The wheels haven't even been on for 24 hours! Question is what tire pressue should I be running my 235/35/19 tires? When I got the wheels put on, they all were approx 41psi which the guy said is better on low profile tires.

41 is good. I'm running 245/35-19 with 38 psi all around. If you hit a pot hole going fast enough to destroy the tire and rim...you're gonna mess something up no matter how much air is in the tire. You just need to drive carefully.

With a sidewall that's only @ 3.25" there's not much area for the tread to retract before the edge of the hole contacts the wheel and the fun begins.
45 series tires are a problem in themselves as the factory wheels can be bent fairly easily unpon heavy contact, but as the lower you go in aspect ratio, the more the wheels are prone for damage.

I never run my 235/35/19 tires over 35-36 psi. That's what my installer recommended & he works on some very high end cars. I also did some research here & remember that range being suggested. Over 40 would be a horrible ride!

yea the ride is rather rough, have you had any bad luck with them at 36 psi, even hitting a pothole?

i hace 39 psi up front and i've hit QUITE a few potholes...
it's PAINFUL, especially since the coilovers are so darn stiff - i haven't had a single problem with bending and such...you really must have hit that thing hard! i say 39 minimum... good luck!

i always run mid to low 30 psi.. on all my rims

i have never bent a rim, or blew out a tire... but i'll say one thing, the RJ Insypre is a STRONG wheel with an excellet structure... for you to bust it up, you really must have slammed that hole

after the snow / winter season.. the roads are always trashed up here in NY

I always drive like I am paranoid swerving and dodging every pothole, gutter and manhole cover. Yeah even the best driver can slam into one at 70mph by accident. Sometimes you just can't see them and they are deep! I've hit a few (EVERYONE in NYC has!) and there's nothing you can do about it. Just bad luck. The risk shouldn't keep you away from nice rims though. Keep doin your thing!

Mas,

In the upper right hand corner, you'll see where it says "Welcome mas3423". Underneath that, click on the word "Messages" which will open up your personal page. On the left hand side, you'll see "Edit Avatar". That's where you add your picture for an Avatar.

Just depends on the angle of contact. You need a pot hole that is large enough to allow the tire to drop down into the hole, then when the leading edge of the tire makes contact with the edge of the road, the tire is squeezed back until the road surface contacts the wheel, and then the problem begins.

Two year ago, bright sunlight, I went under a bridge to get to the 95 on ramp. Under the bridge in the shade there was a deep pot hole which I didn't see. I guess the old eyes couldn't adjust quick enough. I hit it going maybe 40 mph. Tire never came away from the wheel, so no blow out, but the force split one of the factory spokes, and the inside of the wheel was puhed out and back maybe 2". Also bent the rear wheel, and this was with 245/45-17 at 34 lbs. At least the tire(s) wasn't destroyed which can occur, broken belt(s).

Doesn't take much if it's at the right angle.

Sorry to hear about your new wheels, that just sucks
If the NY potholes are anything like they are here in the Chicagoland area (which Im sure they are) then there is likely little you can do to completely avoid hitting them from time to time. I am also one of those paranoid freaks about looking out for them, my wife takes the train to work (we live less than a block from the station) so she does not drive much..... if she takes the TL she gets the pothole lecture everytime she leaves (I cant help it). I have been driving the H2 quite a bit more, especially at night when you cant see as well and I can tell you without a doubt I have hit a few holes that would have simply destroyed my TL's wheel(s). This past friday we had some beautiful weather here so I pulled the Z06 out of the garage since its been hibernating since Thanksgiving, I had to be extremely careful dodging various holes.... that car has over $4K worth of 19" CCW wheels on it with 35 series tires. We have about another month here till the road crews get out in full force and get things back to somewhat normal.

call up ron... he should have one with your name on it... you gotta pay to play

owned 5 different cars in 4 years and the only wheel damage I've had was I curbed my stock tl-s wheels....

the best policy is... gas it if you know the road, do speed limit if you dont... and always brake for potholes never swerve without braking
