^ I saw that on tirerack; I'm guessing you purchased yours there?

I went to discount tire and paid $748.49 which included the tire warranty and of course installation. I showed them it was like $15 per tire cheaper on tirerack and the guy took off $1 per tire

I bought 255/40 17 dws about 2 weeks ago now and I love them. I run about 40 psi in them, the are quite, handle great and have great traction. I paid 137.70 a tire, after tax it was 589 and some change. Also came with a free road hazard warranty from the dealership, add that with the 50k warranty from continental it's a steal. I will be buying these tires again.

Tire Rack is going for $125.00 a tire. Not bad!

If the stock wheels are 8", isn't 245 too big? I'm confused as to how 245s are more recommended.

It's technically not too big. It makes gives the tire a 'stretched' look. So it is actually something like 3/8 inches wider. Some people like it for better handling I guess . I stuck with 235's.

See the talk around post #37 in this thread, Turbonut talks about this stuff...
I'l chime in as my preference and recommendation is to use a 245/45-17 as a replacement. A stretched tire is one that is too narrow for a particular wheel width, but in this case, the 235/45-17 is OE on a 8" wheel, so the 245 can't be a stretched tire. It's possible you may be thinking that the tire size is too large for a 8" wheel width, but the 245/45-17 is to be mounted on widths 7"-9.5", depending on the particular tire. When I say tire dependent, most 7.5"-9", some 7"-9", a few 8"-9.5", but all will be a proper fit on an 8" wide TL wheel.

I was getting my oil changed couple of days ago at a local tire store. I was wondering around and noticed they had the Conti DWS. I asked him about them and he said they are a good tire but he would go with Michelin any day of the week over Conti. The reason is when they get 1/2 worn they will get noisy and the Michelins will remain quiet. He was referring the MXM4. I have always wondered about just what he said and not sure if he really knew his tires or just spewing shit because the Michelins are priced higher.

The 245's are 3/10" larger than the 235's on both the width and diameter.

I'll be getting the 235s installed tmrw as nobody has the 245 in stock and Conti has a huge backlog apparently.

i've read some great reviews about this tire, and the people and discount tire and another local tire shop highly recommended these tires to replace my worn out toyo proxes. so i am deffinately going to pick up a set of these here in the next week or so once i get some time. if someone could post pics of the 245 vs 235 on the stockies that would be great.

I have the 235/45R17 Continental DWS and they are prone to flat-spotting. I have the air pressure set @ 35F/32R and it's still an issue. However, I've definitely liked them after getting them roadforce balanced properly by a competent tech. I had to get 2 replacements from Discount Tire Direct because of excessive roadforce; my current set has minimal roadforce variation.

For comparison, the stickiest tires I have ever driven on are the Hankook v12 Evos. These DWS tires definitely do not have as much grip around corners or as sharp of turn-in (improved @ 35F psi). However, they should last a lot longer and be more comfortable for daily driving.

For the most part, I'm happy about my purchase!

Getting 4 DWS's installed at 8:15 in the morning. We'll see how it goes.
Bought the car last December and it had Bridgestones on the left and Goodyear Eagles on the right. Got 24K miles since on that mis-matched set.
If nothing else, at least having all 4 tires the same will help. Plus the Goodyears were almost slicks!!!

Got My DSW yesterday

I think I did way too much reading the posts on these tires. So I guess I raised the bar too high on what to expect. I have a 08 TL and up the size to 245-45-17 had the 235’s. These tires are way better than the Falken’s I replaced. Don’t get me wrong these tires handles & rides pretty good just a little nosier than I thought they would be. Paid $729 out the door @ Discount Tire after a re-balance, and a broken TPMS sensor they replaced of course. Still have a little shake @80mph before it was @50mph. Only been about 70 miles on them so far may get them to do another wheel balance. Will get a 4 wheel alignment from Honda Monday.

My 2cents….

I've gone through two sets of DWS on my TL. I don't know why people were having so many problems in this thread. Personally, I think it was just incompentent installers. I never had any problems with vibration, balancing, flatspotting, or cupping, etc.

How often are you guys getting alignments? Out of all my cars, my TL seems to need regular alignments the most. How fast you guys go over speed bumps? At work I see people zoom over the speed bumps... That is murder on your alignment.

My DWS for a week now

I agree about incompetent installers. It took Discount Tire 3 visits to get the balancing close enough so I won’t return for a 4th visit. The 30 day return policy was too good to pass up but give me a break. I’m thinking about letting Honda do a balance while they do my alignment next week. It’s worth not retuning to DT a 4th time. My worn out Falken’s didn’t vibrate 100+mph not saying I actually drive that fast of course.

i had the vibration issues that others have had (the dealer subletted the work since they didn't want to mess up my rims, so NTB installed the tires and did a horrible job balancing and didn't even inflate my tires to at least spec!)...did a hunter road force balance at my dealer like a week later since i couldn't stand the vibration. fixed it. they got rid of my pull too. SO, if you get a rebalance at the dealer after failing to do so at big box shop...have the dealer do a hunter road force balance and save yourself a lot of grief.

i have flat spotting issues, but its not that big a deal to me since it goes away after a couple of miles. this is with the tires inflated to +3 over spec (i have 18's). i also don't drive the car everyday.

our TLs are very finicky with alignments. i've experienced this and the dealer says that the TL is sensitive to alignment as well. if the alignment is off even a little...kiss your tires good bye. with my suspension specs i drive insanely conservatively (ie granny slow) over rough roads or i try and avoid those rough patches the best i can (granted i've seen a porsche do the same thing).

overall, i've had the tires for a year and about 6k mi. pleased with them overall, quiet, handled themselves much better than other A/S in packed snow/light snow (however this will change since acquiring the MDX), and do well in rain conditions. there is some sacrifice in cornering as the DWS don't quite "hang on to the turn" as a tire with a stiffer sidewall, but that's ok. for what i need them for, it'll keep me from having too much fun around corners and turns treadwear so far...still looks new.

In April 2011 (56k miles), I wore out the original Mich's and purchased Conti DWS.

Anyone monitoring air pressure more often than the original OEM tires. I am having to add air in all four tires every 6 weeks, as they lose a 1-2 psi. Never experienced this before with the original tires or my other car. Since all four tires are losing equally, I don't think they have any nails or flaws.

Thoughts?

I also add a few PSI to all 4 of my tires every month or two. It was kind of the same with my previous set of General Exclaim UHP's. I don't mind.

I think the DWS's are good tires for the price but like the old saying... you get what you pay for. Conti's are not a Michelin and will have their quality issues like I have been hearing here. Just my 2 cents and not trying to offend anyone.

I just got my DWS installed two days ago and have driven 320 mi on them. Very quiet, as compared to the General Exclaim UHP they replace. I too had an immediate pull to the right, which I will try to resolve with the Discount. My other issue at the moment, is the immediate drop in mpg. I went from 30-31 to 27-28. Even my winter tires, M3, got 29-30. I drive 35K miles per year, so I like my mpg to be as high as possible. Anyone notice a decrease in mpg with the DWS?

My DWS Update 500 miles

After 3 wheel balances @Discount Tire, and alignment @Honda happy right? Took my baby on a holiday trip, and while on the Interstate hanging with traffic @80mph+ VIBRATION again When I got back took her to another shop to check the tire balance. After checking the 2 front tires they said the balance are pretty close, but you have a tire issue. So called Discount Tire for a tire replacement. Well they are out of both the 235's & 245's said they will call when they arrive. I told them that I'll take the first size that comes in. So far I do like these tires, but the vibration spoils it for me. Hate to spend Michelin money, but better than half the way there now.

Tire balnce pretty close doesn't cut it on the TL, they must be dead on. After the tire is balnced perfectly, have them turn the wheel 180 degrees and rebalance. If the balnce is out, their equipment or wheel center compromised, but if perfect, install and if vibration, tire or possibly a bent wheel which they should see during balancing. Needed this on our TL because of the chromed wheels, they even have an adapter to perform the balance utilizing the lug holes rather than the wheel center.

Discount Tire probably has this, but use a Hunter Road Force machine:

I am beginning to think that buying tires from some of these big warehouses is a bad idea. One reason I say this is because I bought my Pirelli PZeroNero A/S from Tire Rack. When I got my new Michelin Primacy MXM4's last week the installer said 2 of my tires had dry rot between the treads leading me to think that they have been sitting around their warehouse for quite awhile or they are selling 2nds. The Pirelli's are no more than 2 yrs old. Point is a lot of these DWS's are having issues of pulling and balancing so quality control seems to suck at Continental. My MXM4's are smooth as silk with no vibration whatsoever. I can be totally wrong but makes me wonder about these big warehouses.

Check the date on the tire. In the US there is no time limit from when a tire needs to be sold. In fact, if I remember correctly, Tire Rack will advise the consumer of the date, if the tire is from old stock.

Date check:
http://www.tuninglinx.com/html/car-tire-date-code.html

Got to agree about Michelins, great tire and have used them for years and presently they are on 4 of the vehicles in the household. The only car that doesn't have Michelins is the TL as I wanted to experiment with the Yokohama S.4 in 245, and looking back, bad choice, tire manufacturer, not size.

If the balance is off, the balance is off, it doesn't matter how close it is. That's like saying you are only a little bit pregnant.

I have the same tires. Pretty much no vibrations. I got them to replace the DWS because I was having a horrific time with balance and noise. So far I have 15000 miles on them and they have been great. I took them out in the snow last month and they performed very well.

I bought the 245/40r17's about two months ago and they rock. I previously had on the Michelin Primacy MXM4's and I like the Conti's way better. Dry and wet traction is way better. There is a slight difference in cornering from the Michelin's but it's not a deal breaker. I saw that a lot of people who were complaining abot the cornering had bought the wider 245 with the 45 sidewall. I went with the 40 sidewall and am very happy. Kinda wish I would have gone with the 255/40r17's now to get the fatter tire.

I highly reccomend the higher tire pressure for the tires to alleviate the flat spotting and it gives you a firmer ride. I only had the flat spotting issue for the 1st week and it went away. No issues with vibration all the way up to 130. +1 on getting them to balance and balance again at 180 degrees. I can't say enough good things about these tire. I love them.

Those tires must look like roller skates wheels on the TL as they are about the diameter of the compact spare 24.7".

There is a slight difference in the fender gap from the stockies but not a huge. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's something like 1/2" smaller in size from stock as far as diameter.
