Need help replacing my donut spare with an actual TPMS tire.
I have an 2008 Acura TL. I'm looking to replace my donut tire with an actual TPMS tire. Its going to be exactly like one of the tires I have now, a factory tire and rim. I didnt do my research so at first i thought if i bought the same rim and tire and put it on, it would automatically be detected by the TPMS. Luckily for me, I bought the rim but not the tire yet. After doing some research, I found out I need to get an extra TPMS sensor. So I bought one, an actual honda genuine one. I read that i need to have this new tire programmed into the computer for it to register under the TPMS. Is this true? All i really want is to have an exact same tire that I have on the car now, in the trunk and if I get a flat, that I can replace that tire with the new tire in the trunk and it would register under the TPMS. What do I have to do get that done?

you HAVE to get it programmed. this is why tpms sensors are so expensive. you can do it at the dealer or there are programmers you can buy but that will only save you money if you program multiple sets of sensors.

Okay So i have to get it programmed... But do i have to get it reprogrammed every time i put the spare in? example: I put the spare on the car, get it programmed, i take the spare off, replaced it with the original tire, will the original tire will be registered under the TPMS and work? and if I get a flat and replace that with the new tire in the trunk, will it automatically be registered under the TPMS since its already been programmed?

I don't believe the system is designed for, or will accept 5 sensors. Upon initial start up when the key is turned on, the system recognizes the 4 wheel locations and having a 5th sensor will inhibit the correct info. Also, any new sensor, at least on the TL, doesn't need to be programmed by the dealer, as the system will recognize the signal and wheel location after driving.

the tpms register ALONE, there is no programming needed if it doesn't sync then you purchased the wrong sensor point black
so let me get this straight you want a 235/45-17 tire in ur trunk on a 17x8 wheel, why didn't you just buy a spare stock wheel and buy watever tire of that size is on sale, and GENUINE HONDA TPMS means nothing if you DONT POST A PART NUMBER

Wheel part number: 42700-SEP-A53
Tire Pressure sensor part number: 06421-S3V-A04
Tire Size: p235/45r17 93w
tire model: michelin pilot mxm4. (I still need to get this tire)
Are u saying all I have to do is put that all together and replace one of current tires with this newly made tire and it will automatically be detected by the TPMS? and if i put the tire I took off in the trunk, that sensor wont interfere with the 4 current tires installed?

In other words, yes this is exactly what I want and i want it to work with the TPMS, I have an extra stock 17x8 wheel and a TPMS sensor. (Part numbers are listed in my previous post.) I just wanna know if I put all that together and just replace one my current tires with it, it would automatically work with the TPMS. I'm confused because people are saying I need to have a dealership register the sensor but it seems like ur telling me it will register automatically if i put it in.

ok so you have the correct sensor... 06 - 08 TL (Non-S)
as mentioned you will not have to "program" anything it will register after you go for a drive
In case you have further questions

What i was referring to is the tire in the trunk with the TPMS sensor as being the fifth sensor, it will confuse the logic. The TL, when the spare is on a corner and the TPMS wheel/tire is in the trunk a specific code is recognized to distinguish that tire from the doughnut that is on the car. So, putting a fifth TPMS sensor in the mix will cause a problem, at least in my opinion. However, as I stated before, the TL can have a new sensor introduced at any corner and will be accepted after a short drive.
It will be interesting to see the results.
