Exclamation Need Help: Lowered and Clunking

Hi,

My 06 6MT is lowered on Tein H-techs, stock struts, and with a rear Ingalls camber kit. The springs and camber kit were installed by the same shop. Alignment is in spec. However, I have noticed that I am getting a strange "clunking" or "squeaking" noise coming from the rear of the car since it was lowered. The noise is associated with suspension travel (i.e. when I go over bumps and the rear suspension is compressed). I have been under the car on with it on jack stands and have been unable to diagnose the problem. Everything is tight and bolted down and cannot replicate the squeak. I also can't replicate it by pushing down on the car.

Anyone have similar experiences? Anyone have any ideas on how to further diagnose the problem? Is this normal for a lowered TL???

Thanks in advance!

I have the same thing. It squeeks when I go slowly over the bumps (someone told me its normal because its just the spring compressing and rubbing of one coil to the other. If that makes sence). but I do get the clunk sometimes too so I am not sure what that is. i thought that my rear shock is blown but the car is not bouncy or anything.

Me too. I have rattle/clunk on the front and squeaking in the rear. I started another post about this here but its for the front noise:

From what I hear it's either your end links not being tight enough or your top hats are not tightened all the way to the car.

I have the same clunk you described and after checking and tightening those two things I just mentioned, the noise was still there, so I've just given up. I think it's just what happens when you lower your car.

After my car was lowered, my passenger rear would "clunk" going over bumps. It sounded as if there was junk in my trunk (no pun, and no homo) that was jumping around, but my trunk was empty. After reading many threads, I thought it was my endlinks. After bringing it back to the shop, they said that everything was tight, but they loosened it all, and re-tightened it all. Since then I have not had any problems.

The shop I had it done at said that many Hondas and Acuras have this problem, and it is prob. the endlinks. They said that it was safe, and if I could live with that noise, that I was ok. If not, thy suggested buying some upgraded endlinks.

That's just my experience, may not be the same for everyone.

Torquesteer & ifirahse,

do you guys think this problem is associated with the konis? i have this noise in the front left of my whip on certain types of bumps and it seems to only happen when the shock/spring combo "extends"....my last straw is to change my FSB to a TL-s bar with new end links and bushings and also possibly change the lower control arm on the front left as well. its very annoyin but i can live with it. other than i dunno wat else to check...im thinking something possibly with the sub-frame?

I dont think its the Konis. Ive used this brand on other cars with no noise at all but its possible. Ive disconected the front sway bar links to see if it was them but the noise was still there. The interesting thing is that in the front the left makes a different noise then the right. And in the rear i also have that squeaking noise when the rear suspension compresses. No idea what that is at this point. Aslo there is a rattle coming from the back and it sounds like something is bounding around. I did notice that in the trunk the cover for the spare tire aka trunk liner makes a bit of ratteling noise when tapped by hand. This might get louder as the car is driven over rough roads and make it sound like its coming from the rear suspension. Im going to remove the trunk liner today and go for a drive and see what happenes.

I doubt it has anything to do with the shocks...my money is on the endlinks. Like the guy above me said, he re-did his and the noise went away.

I'm planning on buying the fastline adjustable end links soon so once I get those on I'm hoping the clunk goes away.

Udate

In the rear i found out the rear trunk liner does add or make the ratteling noise.

In the front i disconected the front endlinks from the sway bar but did not remove them completely. I went for a drive and the noise was still there. I reconected the links and now the noise on the front left is gone but the one on the right which sounds slightly different is still there.

the noise i had was associated with the front left endlink. it was all beat up and the bushings were dangerously loose! anywho, noise is gone and ill prollly end-up replacing the right front endlink as well when i swap my swaybar to the TL-s swaybar. hope this helps anyone with similar "clunk" symptoms.
