i think your tires are way too thin for the car. you should have gotten 225 series or 235 if the offset is high.

Exactly, you know the rules!
I would like to see them, because those tires do sound like they are not wide enough. Almost sounds scary. 235 is probably recommended, but I might have tried to fit 245's on an 8 inch rim.

Bronx02tl is correct. 215/45/18 is the closest fit to the OEM 215/50/17. I went through the same tire size investigation before I bought my tires.

The OEM 215/50/17 has a tire height of 25.46".

215/45/18 is +0.08".
225/45/18 is +0.255".
225/40/18 is -0.185".

Even though 215/45 is thinner, the addition 1" rim height is more than enough to cover the difference.

true, that is the closest size but 8" wide tires should take at least 225 tires and it's a slightly bigger contact patch. since 225/40 is smaller, it will effectively lower your gearing/drive ratio so the car will be *faster*. also, cheaper since it's size is more common.

Yup. 225/40 tires are like night and day as far as pricing goes compare to 215/45 or 225/45.

Your statement is only valid if you shop between different manufacturers and tire models. If you compare the prices of 225/40/18 and 225/45/18 within the same brand and model, there is only marginal increase in price with the 225/45/18. Sometimes 225/45/18 is even slightly cheaper than 225/40/18.

The only limitation is that, for 225/45/18, you only have two choices : Michelin Pilot Sports or Bridgestone S-03.

Actually you have 3 other choices - Pirelli PZero @ $193, Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 @ $211, and Continental ContiSport @ $135. But your right, there are a lot more choices (counted 61 from Tire Rack vs. 5).

So 225/45/18 would fit without rubbing...I didn't think so. Anyone have 18x8 with this size tire?

I think you have to cut the tab with that setting.

if the tire size is appropriate, rubbing is more about offsets.

Good choice on your wheels.

Probably one of the lightest ones around. Those where actually one of my finalist, but since I have A WDP, the darker silver finish didn't look as good as the Konig Appeal Silver Machine Face finish I ended up getting, but man, that 15.1lbs on the 17x7" wheels was really tough to turn down.

HERE is a link to Steve's (TopGum) TL with those wheels. I've sold mine and didn't get a chance to take any pics. BTW, what color is your TL?
