How low before a camber kit is needed?

Not sure but this probably should be posted here:

till the negative camber goes past 1.5 degrees- then a kit is a good idea to fix the tire angle in the vertical- puts the tread flat against the road
a standard 1 1/2 inch drop is no sweat- my camber is at neg 1.1 and neg 1.4 depending which wheel-at that drop
I leave the tires on one wheel and dont rotate

So you're saying a 1.5" drop doesn't require a camber kit?
And that you don't rotate your tires due to uneven wear? Sorry a little confused at your last statement.
What if I go to a 2" drop? I guess I'll just get an alignment and see what my camber numbers are at.

My HR Sport drop was enough to require a camber kit. I didn't notice any abnormal tire wear but after the first snow it became crystal clear that I was loosing traction. I rotated my tires and realized I needed a camber kit...and new tires. Don't kid yourself, save you tires and be safe. Get a camber kit and an allignment.

1.5 should be fine, I thought you had that already?
But yeah, pretty much you should consider getting a camber kit if your camber exceeds -1.5 degrees, which you would be able to find out when you get an alignment.

I would get a camber kit for insurance.
Although Bat3sTL is running swift springs on his stock shocks for almost a year now then he added the A-Spec 18's.
All he did was get an alignment and it was straight.
I think he might be getting a camber kit soon though.

X2 on this one!! People will tell you, you don't need it but when your inner tread is worn and the tires are shot, ask yourself, do I need a camber kit?
Here are pictures of my tires before the camber kit. Also after I installed the camber kit, the car handled so much better. Nothing like having all four tires planted firmly on the ground.................
The rear camber before...........
After...................
The rear is easy but the front needs a ball press.............

Get the camber kit man, the best insurance you can get.
My car is dropped about 2inches in the front 1.75 rear.
I hope this helps.

As you can see from my pictures, front a rear was done. If you are gonna do anything, it's all or nothing. The ingalls is what I installed. Ingalls gives you toe and camber in the rear as you can see by the two adjustment bars in the pictures. The front is camber in or out as you can see in the top ball joint.

Most of the time with a normal 1.5-2 inch drop- you only need the rear camber kit- which is cheaper and easy DIY install The rear camber goes way negative before the fronts will
Go extreme drop and the fronts will go past allowable limits- normal is ZERO degrees camber- max neg 1 degree
I have different camber front and rear- and each wheel is a little different- 1.4 neg on one side of the car front- neg 1.1 on the other
So I plan to leave my tires where they are- then they always run the same job and relation to the road
They either pull and turn the car - or they coast - too many possible issues with tire bands adjusting to their new position- and I run directional tire that need to stay on one side - one direction of rotation, so it works for me

Man who thought slamming a TL required so much work! Haha
For now, when I get my new struts on, I'll keep the drop to a max of 1.5", get it aligned (I think I'm gonna get the unlimited alignment deal at Firestone!) and see where my numbers are.
Thanks for the help!

In the pics, how long have you had the tires on for? And you had an alignment after you dropped it right?

I'm dropped 1.75" all around, don't have a camber kit, and I have even tire wear all around. The key is to get a good alignment done. You need A LOT of negative toe. This will work for you, too, as long as you don't lower your car 2" or more.

For the front, you have 2 quality choices, ingalls or spc, there are also a few other kits on ebay for real cheap, but since no one has tested them I wouldn't risk it
I am running a 1.5" drop in the front and really don't require a camber kit
My rear is a little over an inch, but I installed a camber kit just so I wouldn't have any premature wear
No idea why you'd want negative toe... I zero'd mine out

The picture of the tires show the front tires at 25k miles before the camber kit.
I also have the Fireston lifetime algnment and had the car aligned after both the drop and camber kit install. I got the tires balanced and the car rides and handles sweet.
The tires are at 32k right now and still have even tread. Before the camber kit install, the insides were wearing so quick. The tires were loud and I had a vibration in the wheel.
Everything was fixed above and I have 32k on a set of 245/18 tires. I am looking to get 35-40k on them. Spend money now on a camber kit, or spend 800 bucks for new tires in two months.

I am a noob, so please don't blast me for asking this question. I know the TL is built with a negative camber for enhanced cornering and drivability. I am not an aggressive driver and just drive my baby to work and back on mostly the freeway. Is there a good reason why I would not want my camber at Zero for both the front at back so my tires wear evenly?

^Welcome.
Are you factory height, because TL's only have adjustable TOE in front. If your alignment is out of Normal specs then camber kits will be required to fix.
If you drive a lot of miles then I would have mine set as close to zero camber as possible (by buying camber kit/kits ). Are you having any tire wear issues?
