How Does Tpms Exactly Work?
Yes it is wireless. Just think about it like this, would there be a cord attached to the sensors when the sensors spin?
Its just transmits signals the TPMS module I believe, then displays the data on the NAV screen or the MID display.....

My TL is an 05' so I don't have it...
But my G35 has it. The service manual explains that it is wireless.
It says that when not it motion, the ECU polls the tire pressure once every 5 minutes. If the vehicle is in motion, it polls the tire pressure every every few seconds to every 60 seconds, depending on speed or something like that.
The modules in the wheels, "wake up", when the wheel first goes into motion. If the ECU doesn't receive a signal from the wheels within 30 minutes of moving, the TPMS malfunction light illuminates.
If the tire pressure is detected to be less than 27psi, it illuminates the TPMS light, and sounds an audible alert.
There is a sequence described to "learn" the modules by the ECU, when first installed, which requires a computer to be hooked up to the diagnostic port. There is also a sequence described to manually "wake" the modules for diagnostic procedures.
I'm assuming the TL's is similar.
