Help me build my wheel/spacer/suspension setup
I know about as much about wheels/spacers/camber/suspension/coil-overs as I do about astrophysics, so not much at all.
I'll keep this short and to the point. I've got an 07 type-s, 5AT. This coming summer I will be upgrading my suspension components and getting new wheels. I want to retain a rather stock look with the car pretty much having the stance of a BMW. I have no interest in slamming the car or stretching the tires or anything like that.
I will most likely be going with the Xxr 530s and 20mm spacers in the front with 25mm spacers in the rear (is this possible without rolling fenders?). So here's what I'm looking for:
-Don't want to have to roll the fenders
-Don't want the car to ride too low
-Want to retain a stock look ( I really like Rockstar's stance a lot!)
-No stretched tires
-I live in an area that gets a good amount of snow in the winter so I will be keeping my stock type-s wheels for the winter tire with winter tires on them. With that said, I will want to be able to relatively easily adjust back to a stock height and look with the winter wheels/tires on. This is my daily driver so at this point I have no choice but to drive it in the winter.
I'll also be putting an aspec kit on the car at the same time as everything else so I will need to be sure to keep that in mind with the height of the car. I've also got a pretty steep slope on my driveway that may prevent me from going too low without scraping.
Sorry for the randomness and unorganized approach in this thread, but I just really have no clue where to start.

Well, I am
That said I will say that:
I am maxed on tein SS
I am rolled fenders
I have corrected camber which actually gives you less clearance to fender
I am mildly stretched with a 225 on a 9" rim
My offsets are F +35 / R +25 with use of spacers, that said I'd recommend you get as aggressive an offset as you are ok with with the XXR's or you'll end up with no concavity. (Check out John Ebelp...he did the milder offset and it still looks great).
So, unfortunately...with me as an example it sounds like I have a lot of things done that you're not comfortable with for a daily driver that has to be able to make it through the winter. Unless you do one height for summer and one for winter...and just plan to get an alignment every 6 months.

I should clarify - I'm okay with an aggressive stance that *may* require me to roll my fenders. It just has to be something that doesn't look completely retarded when I return to stock appearance/height for winter driving. I live in the country too so I really can't lower my car too much...rockstars is probably the lowest I could go.
I've got to dig through some progress threads in the photograph section to see what I can find

^you'll only need to get an alignment if you alter ride height. firestone has a lifetime deal for $150...put it to use.
you can keep camber where it is if you'd like, just make sure toe is close to zero. firestone can do all that for you during the alignment.

OP, you won't be raising the car for winter, trust me. It's so tedious and time consuming to get the ride height just where you want it that you're not going to want to touch it again (unless you decide to go lower, which is inevitable). It snows almost every day here in the winter, but it doesn't bother me. I've yet to have a real issue with it. Just get a set of winter wheels/tires and you'll be all set.

^^^He's not like a normal guy though...he's fkn dedicated to the look.
yeah, rolling fenders, IMO, is a must. If you're interested in being flush, getting the clearance is priority one. Not like you can see that the fenders are or aren't rolled afterward anyway, know what I mean?

LOL...don't worry, when I started on here, I didn't know what the fk offset meant. I just knew lowering.
I'd go to your local regions area and ask where other members are getting theirs done. Allocate about 100 bucks to do all four corners.

From other forums, spacers 15mm front and 20mm rear on OEM wheels will push them out enough for the nice flush look. Ichiba V2 were a brand I'm looking at. My buddy has them on his 350Z gonna get a set for myself soon. I personally rather have coilovers than springs due to the fact you can adjust your height and suspension. However, I have the same question about what coilover brand to get? Want to stay under the $1K limit...any pros/cons for Megan, BC, K-Sport...etc??? Thanks in advance.

JJH, if you're looking for aggressive but don't want to pull/roll the fenders, look at my setup.
18x9 +30 with 235/40/18. I'm 1/4" from maxing the front coils and maxed on the rear. If you don't plan on going this low...you'll be more than fine with this setup.
So far I haven't rubbed.

You won't need spacers with those wheels. Check out the XXR 530 thread to see how the different width/offset looks, but I can assure you, spacers will push them out too far.
#23
Right. Spacers basically subtract offset, correct? So like if you have a +40 offset, and get 20mm spacers, then you only have like a +20 offset?
#25
What did you have going on in that picture besides the aspec rims, 10mm front/20mm rear spacers?
So just as a little update as to what I am leaning towards, hoping for some insight from more experienced members.
Right now, I don't think that I am going to be getting any new wheels. With that said, XXR530s are a almost definite in the future.
Here's what I'm looking at for a set-up
- Koni Yellow Shocks
- H&R Springs/Nuespeed Springs (haven't decided yet)
- SPC rear camber kit(should I look at a different camber kit? I have an offer for $160 shipped for a brand new SPC rear camber kit.)
- Stock type-s rims (for now)
- 10mm front, 200mm rear spacers (suggestions to modify this?)
So with the above in mind that I might be changing out to XXR530s in the future, am I in any way limiting myself? I will be taking advantage of the lifetime alignment deal at Firestone but I don't want to have to dick with the other stuff if I decide to upgrade to the XXR530s, minus removing the spacers. I assume that I will also have to get my fenders rolled to make this all work. Most of all, I want to future proof myself so that I am able to run my stock type-s rims in the winter and XXR530s in the summer, when I do finally upgrade.
Thoughts/suggestions/comments on the above? Big thanks for all of the help so far.

Pretty easy answer, but rather than write it all out, just google/wiki version 1 and version 2 spacers.
Basically, NO, no trimming of anything. Spacers are simple...just make sure your rim has an empty space for the oem stud poking through if it's less than a 20mm.

and it's interesting how some rims have space between the holes as if they were made to accommodate the oem studs

I do...both upper...from ingalls adjustable balljoint and rear spc rear upper camber arm.
I just realized after looking at yours that the main thing I hate so much about the look of slammed TLs is the camber. With yours having the correct camber, it looks very good lowered like that. I'm sure it outperforms the other crazy camber cars by a significant margin. It looks more like a performance car rather than purely cosmetic. Good job, very tasteful.
Thanks, man. I appreciate comments like that!
