I just put on my HT spec coilovers type 2+2 and my car (05 base tl) it is sitting really low. I say about 3 inches which I am currently riding on my 05 17 inch stock TL rims. The fender is pretty much a little pass the tire it self.I will post pix later. Im trying to have them sit flush with the fender above the tire. My mechanic who installed these bad boys says it couldnt be raised up any more which they tried to max out the height more up instead of sitting low. I need these or is it possible to have my car raised a little bit more on these coilovers. If not then i might be posting these up for sale or trade for coilovers local only. BUt before I decide to sell the coilovers any ideas how i can get my ride a little higher. Im thinking maybe bigger rims like 18, or 19s. My j pipe is hanging pretty low as well which I do not want to damage the flex pipe. HELPPPPP lol

heres how she sit sorry for the dirty pixxxx

yea the mechanic who put them on told me this is the highest they go I seem pretty puzzled and im thinking in my head that it seems impossible for any coilover to come in right out the box and the first setting before dialing in anything is at a right away slammed height.

Out of the box they are probably preset at a certain height but you SHOULD be able to raise or lower the car from that point.

I hope so because it seems like the mechanic didnt do theyre job probably or jus half assed me on the job. Im so upset right now I feel like i cant even go fast cus my friggin front tires has that rumble vibrating feeling after a wheel alignment and yes i know i need to add a front camber kit since I have the rear already. I hope a fellow local ziner here in central FL or something can put in there input as well since I need a hand.

^I hope they didn't mess with the wrong adjustment settings. Like Tyler said above they SHOULD be easily adjusted to whatever height you want, taking into account what they are rated for as a minimum drop. (probably like 1.5" minimum?) I don't have coilovers, and am not a suspension expert, but I have read members questioning which set of lock rings (<-terminology?) to adjust when trying to change ride height. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I am sure it is stated in 1 of the coilovers adj threads. Or call Marcus over at Heeltoe, and he should be able to help. Good Luck, that is LOW!

lol I know im sitting pretty low and my j pipe it hanging even lower. But yea im going to give marcus a call so he can explain to the shop that put on the suspension how to properly adjust this. I feel they were being lazy when i said i want the car low about 2.6 inches not 3+ and once the coils were adjusted already on the car they told me that they tried to raise it back up but they dont go up any higher then the pic i posted which I know is BS.

FF coil have a MINIMUM drop of ~1.5"....

How much is it coiled into the shock body on the bottom part? I think minimum requirement is 0.5 or 0.75"? (this will give you max height)

check out my thread... this is FF type 1 at its mildest drop

im not to sure the mechanic did not give me the spec but what i wanted was a drop of about 2.5 inches. Im going to have to pay the mechanic a upexpected visit because this has to be fixed this job was un exceptable. Im kinda upset but i hope they fix this tommorow since they are a busy shop.Im deffinatley going to ask marcus if he can aslo email me like some specific pics of how to adjust the shock body on these just incase they try to say they installed them correctly.

Im going to try my best right now not to bash the performance shop that did the install and befair that they correct their mistake 1st as I try my best not to be so angry as yet but I am pissed of now that im finding out the correct height specs these coilovers can be adjusted to. I got a half ass job done and hoping they do a complete job tommorow that I paid my hard earned cash on

OK guys a little update and i will post more pix later. The mechanic that i went to told me that the htspecs are garbage and how i should of went with bwr or d2's instead and I told them that these are well known suspension and have no clue but anyway they adjusted the preload and claimed they still tried to raise the height of the car. The height did a just a little bit more but Im still not 100%. The shop also keeps telling me maybe the coilover are defective or the wrong ones which I doubt marcus sent the wrong item and a defective product. Im going to wait for my buddy MAFYOSO to give me hand soon because it just seems like the shop does not no what they are talking about.

my buddy and I put the HT-Spec Type 1's on a few days ago and I do know that straight outta the box they are at the lowest setting. I'm talking tucking at least 1/2 the wheel all around.

anyhow, when we adjusted it to "driveable" height we measured the space between the bottom collar up top(the preload collars) and the bottom collar(height adjusting one) and got 5". this puts my car sittin on the stock 17's at a 1 finger gap.

hope this helps out a little bit.

What shop did the install? It sounds like you're coilovers are all messed up now since they adjusted the preload instead of raising the height back up. Any reputable shop should know the proper way to adjust these.

Heres the link that tells you the measurements of the pre load settings.......to adjust the height the have to loosen the bottom lock ring!

I went to speedzone and they raised the preload a little bit more up so bring the ride height up a bit but I was speaking with marcus today and I had him speak with the mechanic Ill have to take measurements of the spring to send to him. I doubt i got the wrong product or a defective one. Any FL locals who wana check it out or something as well just pm me.

thanks. I printed out the pdf that shows how to set the preload etc and I gave it to the shop they didnt even look at all the pages but kept telling me and showed me how the raised the preload and on the actual threaded body the springs are pretty high but it still seems kind of weird.

The HT-spec Type 1 and 2 both have a minimum drop of 1.5 inches. They are not garbage, the mechanic is garbage to say that are. Because he's not adjusting them correctly. Never adjust the height by the spring's preload, that changes the spring rates and can make your car ride like doo-doo. You want to adjust the height by lengthening or shortening the shock's body.

I can't believe they are that stupid!......lol

To adjust the height you have to unlock the bottom lock nut and turn the base counter clockwise(to go higher) till you go with a desired height......I have some picture to try and help.
Setting it at those settings would give you a drop like the picture at the bottom..if you want lower nicer height raise it to were the blue marks are on my tape measure...I raised it to that specs because was unhappy with the ride!..(I had basics)

But in all make sure u set the pre load first!..then adjust your height.

Im going to post up pics of how the rear and the front is set right now to give you guys an idea. Marcus is working real close with me to hep get this issue corrected. He stated that mayb some yellow part he said might be the wrong part but he doubt its the wrong setup.

I think you definitely got the wrong coilovers, something is not right..........vibration ure getting is from the axles because car is sitting so low....that's why I had raised mines to the specs heeltoe says and my vibration went away ...from the pictures they look like they are at their highest but did you measure the threaded gap?

Kind of sucks you are going to have to remove them and ship them back...I removed mines THREE times, trying to get a smoother ride.....

Just gave up...but you should be fine if they send you the right ones next time as you have dampening adjustment

OP what are your measurements collar to collar? I have mine at 4.5" (20 clicks)in the front and 4 5/8" (2 clicks) in the rear. Preload set to 8 in front and 8 3/4 in rear. This put me at 1 finger gap all around. I have an older set of type 2's 2.0. With my set if I put the front coils at 3-7/8th as recommended I would be way too low. I believe this is due to Marcus elongating the lower bracket in 1st quarter 2011 so we could reach stock height.

Measure the gap...it will determine that you have the wrong coils or they are not properly adjusted

OK more updates guys a buddy of mine took him to his personal mechanic certified works for bmw etc. He checked out my suspension and seen that these guys at speedzone did not set the coilovers properly. Ill be taking care of the issue on fri hopefully so more updates to follow. It looks like the bottom piece where where the last ring is has to come up more and the springs preload has to come down in order to properly adjust the height more but from making the suspension firming im liking the ride but once adjusted properly and fine tuning the dampening i should be SETTTTTT

Man. So often is the case that issues found are due to adjustment or installation. I wish I could be everywhere and do everyone's suspension.

For the record, we are recommending a 7.5" preload on the front springs. Read more here:

Update guys: As Marcus stated the guys at the mechanic shop were newbs and did not know how to properly adjust and install coilovers. Big thumbs down to this so called performance shop. And then come to find out when taking out my back rear seats today ME and my new mechanic notice that this performance shop when they did the install did not put back some of the bolts that held down the seat which we managed to find in the trunk of my car. I will never go back to that so called performance shop again imagine what they have done and screwed up on other peoples cars. Well I will update with pix but today the outcome was great. Me and my new mechanic we first adjusted the preload back to correct spec according to mr heeltoes PDF print out and we were able to adjust the ride hide from the second ring at the bottom. Overall the cars ride is close to stock but very soft and firm at the same time so I am dropped at about 2.9 inches now everything sits flush, the ride is super soft and handles like a champ to my tuning.+1 on Marcus great customer support these coilovers are very very good quality once the dampening is set. Very pleased with this product.

OK update : Yesterday it started to rain but then mother nature calmed down a bit. Me and Mayfyoso met up yesterday took a few nasty weather pix of our dropped cars. I was having a vibration issue from my passenger front side. We went to this tire shop who inspected my wheels and notice it was either a bad tire and The crappy job that speedzone did when installing my hub back together since I had my axle and studs replaced so I ran into more issues. I will NEVER go back to speedzone.Guys if your in FL do not take your TL to that shop.It will leave driving worse than you brought it. But today I will post pix and im going to take care of this tire issue since after checking with my new mechanic. We went through all the bolts at the disc by the wheel bearing etc and everything seems tight now nothing loose anymore the bolts that speedzone left loose but I just need a tire now. Yesterday Mayfyoso was a big help tho and good friend.

Heres an update of my car along side Mayfyoso on a nasty rainy day, which our cars where clean before the rain came down and then we met up.But here are some teaser pix of more to come from me n Mayfyoso the beasty type s.As far as the ride the suspension is great feels like peanut butter glued to a nice piece of bread, its nice and soft dropped about 3 inches ride is soft as hell no bounce just soft and firm at the same time tuned to my liking lol.The best part of all i have no scrape from my exhaust mod which now im happy that I can go on and install the goodies that I have. Hint hint types parts, some kind of well known quads and unknown 18s. All before summer guys lets get it in for the summer. Enjoy the teaser pix
