Unhappy Having Problems after getting new Wheels!?

Ok, so last week I just got some RJ Legends 19x8 offset 32 and hooked em up with some Hankook V12 Evos all around.

Ever since then I've been getting this weird vibration whenever I accelerate fast. I can't seem to feel much of the vibration during normal driving but when I push it a bit, I feel like the front wheels has a missing lug nut. To be detailed, it's like the front wheels have an exact spot on the tire and whenever the tire rotates(while driving) that spot is what's making that noise... I don't know if you guys can understand that, but that's the best way I can put it. It's kind of hard to explain.

I've checked all the lug nuts and made sure they were all tight.

Got em installed at a friends shop where they mounted and balanced each wheel.

I did lower my car a bit more when I got the wheels installed since I have Tein SS.

There is no way new wheels can do this... could be maybe cuz I lowered the car more?

Wow. Can that really be it?

Well I did go to Firestone today for alignment and made an appointment for Tuesday morning.

When I drive it seems to drive straight. I will double check tomorrow.

Hope you are right. Really hope so..

1st, make sure none of the rims are bent or damaged; inspect them. Then check alignment.

Once that is good you might also rebalance the tires, but use RoadForce balancing. Also, make sure you lugs are at 80 lb-ft, not just "tight", but tightened correctly.

They were inspected the moment I received them from UPS. Had no damages.

Never heard of RoadForce balancing. Can that be done anywhere or does that require a particular machine. When I tighten my lug nuts, I twist em all with my hand, then I use the bar and hand tighten em, then I finalize this by using my foot and putting some pressure. All of course going by the star method. Done this my whole life and never had a problem.

Yes, RoadForce Balance uses a special machine. You may have to check a couple of shops to find one. Look it up on YouTube and/or Wiki.

I'd double check the rims again. Just in case.

Bad move for this car. If you get the lugs too tight you tend to create problems - usually with warped rotors - since it puts too much or uneven stress on the rotor hub and our rotors are fairly thin. 80 lb-ft. Trust me; I would not lie.

Got it.

Never said you'll lie.

Maybe that's why my brakes seem uneven. Recently when i brake, my head seems to rock back and forth, yea that's while I'm braking.

Which torque wrench do you use or would recommend?

Switch the fronts to the backs and if the same problem under acceleration have a look at the CV joints.

Any torque wrench will do, but look for one that has 1/2" drive, max @ 100-125 lbs, and has a "clicker" rather than a scale. They can be had at a very reasonable price and will save a lot of headaches in the future.

I know. I was joking. I wrote that in my "used-car salesman" voice.

I usually get a loaner torque wrench at the local AutoZone. It's a clicker-type; something like 25 - 150 lb-ft.

+1 on lug nuts being too tight.

Since I'm always messing with my wheels, I went to Sears and bought a torque wrench. It's awesome

Thanks. Looking at some Autozone torque wrenches.

lol. That's weird, the guy today at Autozone said that they don't loan tools. Will check with another Autozone.

Yep I got a Craftsman Torque Wrench and I love it. It was a little pricey but I'm getting my monies worth. Plus you can't beat a lifetime warranty.

You have a warped rotor to start with but that shouldn't effect the accelleration vibration.

Hmm, just read the reviews on them and they didn't seem too reliable. How long you guys had em for?

Warped rotors or worn pads?

I've had mine for about 6 months.

You could buy it and properly torque the lug nuts and then return it

Lol. The point is to buy something reliable so I don't have to return it. Now I'm not no everyday mechanic but I do most services myself, so I don't need top end stuff. Just enough to get by.

Good hearing that you Craftsman is ok. I'm just kind of iffy cuz there were lots of bad reviews on it. Leaning towards they Husky 3/8 or 1/2. Just don't know which one. Maybe a "1/2" drive, max @ 100-125 lbs" like turbonut said, but care to explain why?

Ok, I decided on going with the Husky 1/2" 20-250 lbs tq.

Just bought it from Home Depot for $85. 90 days warranty with store and lifetime warranty with manufacturer. One of the workers said even if it breaks after the 90 day store warranty, they could store credit. If he was being legit than that's awesome, I'll just replace it with a new one.

I re-tightened my nuts and felt good. You can definitely hear and feel the click. Well see how long she lasts.

^Kinda went off topic.lol

Getting alignment done tomorrow morning. Will update after.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I just got my alignment done and had my wheels torqued correctly yesterday. After I torqued them yesterday, the vibration got a little better. After the alignment, it felt the same.

Will try raising the car when i get the chance, I'm 90% sure that's the problem.

If you raise the car it will change the current alignment specs.

In addition to what was recommended, you may need some hub centric rings if the rims center bore is larger then the car's center hub. Check out this website...

He's got RonJons so (unless I am mistaken) his bore size matches and no hub centric rings are needed.

When you retorqued them did you loosen then then retighten?

I doub't very much the lowering or raising the car has any bearing on the vibration your talking about.

Have you tried moving one wheel at a time from the front to the back to see if you can isolate the wheel that causing the problem? If moving them to the back doesn't solve it then you have a different issue than a tire or wheel.

Didn't even think of that.

Yes, I loosened them, then re-tightened.

I think raising the car would help with the vibration cuz that's the only thing I did with the wheels, which then I'm guessing caused the vibration in the first place.

I will try moving the front wheels to the back when I get some free time.
