Got my 04 18" Gunmetals today! But....

UPS delivered my 18” gunmetal wheels today.

All the wheels are good except the edge on one is slightly scraped. The scrapes are not too bad, however this section of the wheel has about a 3” portion where the coating (clear coat??) has peeled/flaked off. Is this some type of coating that can be sprayed on/re-applied? I am not too concerned with the slight scraping as it’s on the outer top edge of the rim, however the coating is damaged on the surface portion of the wheel. This appears to have been shipping damage as the wheels were all sealed in their original Honda boxes. I've already contacted the dealer in case they want to file a claim with UPS (took pictures).

This was the last set of these wheels the dealer I bought from had, so I’m willing to keep this wheel assuming it can be fixed. Can anyone tell me what the coating is and whether it can be re-applied?

I was hoping to have the wheels installed this weekend. There is a detail shop near me that says they fix alloy wheels that have curb damage. Should I see what they can do? Please help. Thanks.

Yes, the detail shop can most likely repaint the area. The paint color is kind of hard to match, so good luck with that. Can you post the pics?

Anyone know what the coating is on the wheels?? As stated, it's clear...

It's for-real clear coat, like the paint on the car has on it. Here is a link to DIY rim repair http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/...cuff-repair.htm. I know some people have used AM for small fixes to their gun metal rims. Not sure where they got the clear coat, but obviously you can get it. Maybe in the paint section at Lowe's or Home Depot...

AdamNJ - 45 seconds? Put it on my tab! Guess I messed up my copy/paste job. Oh well, that's life. It's not totally my fault, either...I'm at work and people keep coming up wanting me to do things...what's that about?

Nice...Thanks. Since the wheel really isn't damaged, maybe I can just get that spray clear-coat stuff...
