Fender rolling and offset Q and A

So here is my problem. I have to go with a new size tire to get the ones I want and consider rolling my fenders. I don't understand what the purpose of getting a 50 offset was when a lot of people say different tires on the same rim may rub. why is offset important?

I got 18x7.5 in 50 offset that isn't made here but now I cant find the tire I want in the size I need. so no more 215/45-18 I have to get something else

Any sugguestions for 2000 TL on 18x 7.5 rims with 50 offset? WHo has their fenders rolled and what does it cost and help?

I decided to go with 18 by 7.5 with 50 offset by Enkei makers of our OEM wheel. They only weigh 17 lbs each:wow:

Now as far as tires go I was considering the Bridgestone S0-2 or S0-3. They have amazing reviews by customers who have run dunlop, mich's and pirelli's. Now they Ideal size was

215/45-18 But only the S0-2 comes in that size and it is a Ferrari spec tire, the only one of the S0-2 S0-3 line that doesn't have UNI-T technology. It is basically a dry track tire that retains it properties at all times and treadwear. I want the UNI-T technology.

The S0-3 improved over the S-02 but is slightly more noisy and less comfortable but by .3 on a scale of 1-10. Its wet grip is even better than the first.

UNI-T AQ: UNI-T Advanced Quality

Bridgestone's AQ technology with Extended Performance Optimization (EPO), helps retain enhanced wet traction into the future. When added to UNI-T tires, AQ technology helps keep their wet traction up even as their tread wears down.

The Potenza S-02 Pole Position has a unique Dual-Layer Tread which has two rubber compounds, one layered on top of the other. As the top layer wears to about half tread depth, it begins to expose an underlayer that has a second tread compound that offers even more wet grip. This helps reduce the natural tendency for a tire's wet traction to decline as the tread's groove depth wears away. The Potenza S-02 Pole Position helps keep wet traction up…even as the tread wears down.

So you finally decided on the Bortex wheels eh? COOL!!

Ordering from Japan? May I ask how much? Those wheels on your black car would be so nice!

with the size wheel you are getting, you probably won't have to roll the fenders..

Even if the 215/45/18 is not readily available, why don't you get the 225/45/18 S-03s?

If you are sure that your wheel is 18x7.5 with a 50 offset, you should definetly go with 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 for SURE... you might rub on the rear bumper tab, which is no big deal, because that can be hack sawed off in less than 5 minutes...but your wheel will definetly not rub on the fenders...just the top of the rear bumper where it meets the fender is all you would have to trim...dont second guess, this is the correct info...this means that you can get your S03 Potenzas....

Thats what I was just thinking! I love you guys thanks !

I think I am going to get the 235/40-18 in S0-3.

Tire Size Comparison

Spec Sdwll Rad Diamtr Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/60 4.8in 12.8in 25.7in 80.7in 785 0.0%
215/45 3.8in 12.8in 25.6in 80.5in 787 -0.3%
225/40 3.5in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 -2.3%
224/45 4.0in 13.0in 25.9in 81.5in 778 1.0%
235/40 3.7in 12.7in 25.4in 79.8in 794 -1.1%

205/60-16 is stock the rest are 18

215/45 is closest but doesnt have the technology I want so I scrapped it

225/40 is what most are running but they are too small for my taste and I dont want a hard ride.

225/45 is good but the side wall is too close to stock and too big for my taste

we have a winner 235/40-18 and it comes in both S0-2 and S0- 3 and the speedometer is least affected Finally Bling Bling wheels

they differ only by a whole dollar in that size so that isn't a factor LOL
What do I have to cut on the rear?

Just to update I had to change my size of tire to 225/40 18 because the 235/40/18 is recomended on an 8 - 9.5 inch width and my wheels are 7.5 so I went with the 225/40 18 that will through off my speedometer by 1.5 mph. Hope they look good on the side

Hey Rob, I don't think you'll have any problems at all with that set-up.......just a grin you won't be able to wipe off.

Your gonna love the S-03's. I still need to buy two more.

Good luck!!

P.S. Is that pic taken in Japan?

Hehe, that and the wheel/tire shop specific "Dunlop" tray/handtruck.

I have SSR GT3's in 18"X8" with a 49 offset. Tire's B.S. S0-3's in 225/45 18's.

Don't get scared.............but..............the rear rub's the plastic tab when driving into dips and what-not. I highly doubt your set-up will rub, I repeat, I highly doubt your set-up will rub. I doub't my setup would rub the tab if I had gotten 225/40 18's. or if I got 7 1/2"(they don't make em anyway). The plastic tab is really no big deal at all. Simply an extra bit of plastic that you could do without. But again, you don't even have to worry about that.

Go have a look on this post, I have a close up shot in there.

You find out how big an A$$hole FedEx is going to give you yet? Shipping from Japan is $$'s. Do you have to go through all that customs sh!t too?
