This link will give you some information, and you can also click at the bottom of the page in the link for other articles.

Tread wear rating is for reference only; it has no direct comparative data between different makes of tires. The following is based on my observations over the years, and may not be perfectly accurate, but will give you a good idea of the process used.

Let’s say that the government, which issues tread wear ratings, selects a certain tire made by Michelin, and designates that as a base tire with a tread wear rating of 100. They then use a machine to wear some of the tread off, and measure that amount. All other tires would then be compared to this first tire, and if only half of the amount wore off of the next tire tested, then it would get a rating of 200, and so on. Under ideal conditions, a tire with a tread wear rating of 400 should last four times as long as a tire with a rating of 100.

Next, if the government tested Bridgestones, the process would start all over again. Now they are comparing only Bridgestone tires to other Bridgestone tires.

What this means is that a tread wear rating of 400 for one manufacturer would not mean the same thing as the same tread wear rating for another manufacturer.

What the rating does is give you some indication of how long you might expect the tire to last, but then you have to consider driving habits, where you drive, etc.

i hear 360 for st115's is a tad generous, more like 300.

as for the tire itself, hard driving (road course driving) causes chunking of st115.

The Falken ST115 235/45-17 Z rated tire has a tread wear rating of 360 http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...5&cs=235&rd=17

IMO while some tires may be a bit better value than others, you generally do get what you pay for.

Generally, sticky tires wear out fast and tires that last aren't sticky.

Does anyone here have actual experience with these tires? I'd be interested in a real review.

they are written as 360 treadwear, but from what i can tell from other longtime users of st115 they seem to be a tad less, more like 300.

there was a poster who had links to his testing of st115 on road course and the tire simply got too hot and began to chunk off. it's a good tire for daily driving, not for racing with or getting real hot.
