Hmm...looks like they mounted the top plate on backwards/upside down. The quick fix would be to hammer out the bolt in the ten o'clock position and then it should mount fine.

Were you able to fix the problem and install them or did you throw the Teins back on? That's a good pic for reference to others who ordered this setup.

Well let's wait for excelerate to speak before I say anything bc I don't want my warranty to be voided for doing anything I'm not allowed to.
Yes they are mounted upside down, but it's made to only go on that way bc the Allen screws are recessed on one side and if you were to turn it around they wouldn't recess into the tophat.

Removing one of the bolts isn't going to void your warranty. Those bolts slide in and out. Just takes a little tap from a hammer.

If these were used or made for a different car I'd be ok with that. Being these are new and cost a good amount, I wouldn't want to modify them to fit either.

If you were installing these yourself, this mixup wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I'm pretty sure some people said they're scheduled to get their coilovers tomorrow so we'll see how they are.

I'm supposed to be getting mine in today. I'll take a look at mine when I get home and report back. I hope nothing has to be taken apart and put back together.

I don't think anyone did. Everyone was scheduled to get them on Monday or later.

Well the easiest solution I can think of that works is to remove the four allen screws on top, lift off that plate, hammer out the studs, flip the plate over, drill slightly into the plate just enough so that the screws can recess into the plate, and then hammer the studs back in (opposite direction as first), and screw the plate back on top (which is now upside down from original).
I just hope that doesn't void the warranty, which is why I'm waiting to hear back from Josh..

So I talked to Josh this morning and he said my warranty is not voided by doing what I did so I can post some pics now and say they are installed.

My car is filthy dirty and I need my front bumper painted so please don't bug me about it . I could lower it more but I want to let the suspension settle in bc I don't want to wake up with the car sitting on my tires lol. Also, in about a week I'll put on my summer wheels after I decide which set to put on :-/. (18x9 or 19x9.5 both with 225/35 tires)

So far I like the suspension. After installing them Saturday morning, I had the dampers at 16. I had a 1.25 hour drive to CT and it felt a little too soft for me. It was also rubbing when I would hit a bump hard, but then again I have stock 350z wheels on which I believe are 30 offset. So when leaving CT I set it at 8 (32 being softest and 1 being stiffest). That's what it's been at and feels great.

The only thing I don't like about the suspension is the dampening adjustment knobs. They are separate knobs that you put in to the top of the suspension. MAKE SURE YOU INSERT THE REARS BEFORE INSTALLING, because once installed you will not have space to put them in and you will have to uninstall the coils to put the knobs in. Other than that (which really isn't a big deal) they are great so far. Only time will tell for the reliability.

Edit: actually I just checked and it seems you should be able to put the knobs in after.

Was there any confirmation that all sets came like this and that we are all going to have to modify our brand new coilovers??? If so, I not very happy. I'm not even installing these myself, so now the guy that is doing it for me is going to have to do all this extra work for me and I will be getting charged fot it!!

Chip, if he took my advice on how to get them installed, there's literally 5 seconds of extra work. Annoying, yes, but not a big deal. The coilovers are still worth every penny.

EDIT: If sunny actually took the stop plate off, flipped it and then drilled the spaces for the allen screws to sit flush, you're right, it is some extra work, but nothing you can't do in under 30 minutes with simple tools.

I hope so John. I'm still a little annoyed that it even has to be this way. Hopefully I'm just jumping the gun and Sunny's set was just a fluke. My buddy is already installing enough stuff for me while I'm away, I was just hoping everything was going to be smooth sailing for him with no extra added stress.

He said he hasn't looked yet, and that he called me right when he saw my PM.

Yes I did take the top plate off. I felt more comfortable doing it that way since all the bolt would be properly lined up and attached. It took 30 mins max (if that) and it is pretty simple.

Yes it is pretty sad that it has to be that way, but I've been dying to be lowered again since I've been missing my Teins since January. Hopefully it was only my set. We can wait for excelerate to let us know when he takes a look at them.

Yeah, I'm hoping Josh has some good news for us. If not, I guess I'll just have to deal with altering them a little bit to make them work.

To be honest, it's a bit disconcerting that the vendor has yet to post to address the issue.

Most of the coilovers we received were shipped out. I am checking one of the boxes we have here. I have also sent an email to the manufacturer to confirm how they built them. We will post up more info as we get more info.

I just opened mine and they seem to be assembled wrong too, wtf!? I'm going to guess everyone is going to have this issue. Needles to say I'm not happy. I shouldn't have to work on a brand new piece of equipment to make things fit right no matter how simple it is when they should have been manufactured correctly to begin with. I expected this from a cheap no name brand coilover, but not from these, ugh.

This is my first purchase from XLR8 and my knee-jerk reaction is to rage, given all the extra BS I'm now going to have to through to ship them back (over an international border, no less).

That said, I understand that he is a respected and well-regarded vendor on here; so, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to rectify this manufacturing error.

I don't really blame XLR8, it's technically the manufactures fault here, but still. We paid $850 for these and waited what feels like an eternity for them to be manufactured and then sent to us only to be built incorrectly, I never expected this to happen. Hell if there was no group buy people would have paid over 1k for these and then what, they would still be built wrong? I just feel cheated that I spent this kind of money and this happened. I sure hope XLR8 has a solution for this issue. Only thing I can think of is to send out new top plates that are drilled correctly, but who knows how long something like that would take.

UPS will leave them, no signature is required. I'm trying not to get ahead of myself, but I'm so frustrated I feel like sending them back and getting the Tein Street Advance instead, while I still have time before I go away on vacation and my buddy installs them for me.

Not much, maybe 5 seconds for each screw (total of 4 screws). I didnt take any pictures of that, which I should have.

Ok a press def wasn't needed couple taps with a hammer and all studs came out easy. What is bothering me tho is the drilling cuz by doin so it feels like it is compromising the integrity of the top plate by making the metal there too thing since the other side is already recessed. Guess it is what it is

You don't have to go through the whole process of taking out all the studs. You can just take out the one stud in the 10 o'clock position in the above picture and just run the suspension with 5 bolts. OR you can do what you are doing and flip the plate, take out all studs, drill etc if you want to install the suspension using all 6 bolts. I think I'm going to go the use 5 bolts route. Hell in talking to John (ebelp) about this last night, he is only using 4 bolts out of 6 because in his test run set that he got, the top plates were for an Accord. I think running one less stud isn't going to hurt anything, if John is running 2 less and his setup works just fine without any issues.

Yeah I think a lot of us are unhappy about this. Especially on a brand new part that was supposed to be engineered to fit our cars.
