Does anyone else feel unsafe in the rain in this car.
Maybe unsafe is the wrong word but in the rain with the stock tires I dont feel secure. I drive slower that I have to if im using my familys other cars. If i do accel on a turn the wheel jolts to the side im turning because tires spin so easily. My tires even spin on the paint on the road. Just does not feel so safe. Think its the stock tires?

Stock Potenzas
I have the stock Potenza summer tires RE030s and don't feel insecure driving in the rain although my Michelin Pilot Alpin winters seem to stick better in any weather. We get a good deal of rain in Vancouver and need decent wet traction.

If you have the Bridgestone Turanza EL 42s you should drive in the rain with extreme care. They do have a tendancy to hydroplane in addition to flatspotting. I, for one, will be glad when my tires wear out.

From what I here the TL is supposed to handle excellently in the rain, although i am not sure whether or not that is with the stock tires. What are the best all season and high speed rated tires for the TL, and how are they priced?

What are they rated at. My dad would never go over 100 on the highway(and that would be in florida, where you can be going slower then other traffic doing that speed), but I would like to get it to a track.

Can't say I feel unsafe but don't push my luck in heavy rain either. Either way, next spring the EL-42's are coming off. I'm still leaning towards the Mich Pilot A/S or a straight Mich Pilot all summer tire.

I had the Turanza's and replaced them at about 15k becuase they were hydroplaining a lot in the rain. They were also pretty worn out though. I put on Pzero Nero's and they grip great on dry pavement but in the rain the front tires break loose pretty easy if I am too heavy on the gas. However with the Vehicle Stability Asist turned on this car is incredibly safe. I hsvr pushed my car to the limit on wet roads with the almost bald turanza's and I could feel the VSA kicking in to keep the car going straight. In fact this is what caused me to replace the turanza's a little sooner than necessary (besides wanting 18" wheels). The VSA was kicking in far too often for me.
Turanza's or no turanza's, this is the safest car I have ever driven on wet roads.

Although the wheels slide sometimes in the rain, the car will keep on track anyway...
I m using the stock bridgestone tires... (23000KM) So far so good, it is not as that bad as u guys described...

I hydroplaned through 4 lanes on the interstate on my TL. These tires are a piece of shit, hopefully I'll swap them for some Michelin PS2's in the future. Just gotta drive slower and safer for now...

Are they vibration free at highway speeds etc.? I read a few reviews that said they did flat spot. My biggest complaint with the EL-42's is the flat spotting and vibration at anything over 60mph. They feel pretty good after each balancing but quickly start vibrating again.
Avon has a great price if the performance is there - near all reviews are looking good though...

I picked up my '05 TL (5AT/Navi) Thursday night w/ stock Michelins. It rained buckets yesterday (Friday) here in Orlando (I swear the animals were lining up in pairs). The car handled flawlessly...even when I had to "test" the ABS brakes - no hydroplaning, fishtailing or anything else. Just a smooth, straight, quick stop in a torrential downpour.

I got the stock tires that came with the Navi TL. Just went through the worst storm this year. Heavy rain, flooding, etc. Car handled just fine.

The EL42s suck. End of story. Been saying that for 20 months. Hasn't changed a bit, I see.

I feel totally safe. When it rained here last, I have to climb a very very large curvy paved hill to get to the top of my apartments and I floored it and cut the wheel trying to loose control and you just can't. The stability system kicks in and it's very controlled.. I do feel more comfortable driving in the rain since I did that.

You guys who are saying the stock EL42s on the TL handle fine in the rain are probably right within the scope of your experience. But there is no comparison between a really good tire in the rain (like the Michelin PS A/S) and the EL42's once you have experienced the difference.
The EL42's feel like you are driving on garbage bags wrapped around Fred Flintstone's tires in comparison to a competent tire.

yeah, those of you who think the el42's are just fine must drive "safely." i never had sticky summer tires, but have had eagle rsa's and contiextremesport, both decent all seasons, but EL42's are the worst by far. rode in my brother's TL with toyo t1s summer tires, and wow, EL42's feel crappier yet.
i don't feel unsafe in the rain, except for heavy rains, because i drive accordingly. i know these tires suck, so i drive like a granny when necessary.
i've been doing my best to wear out the el42's, and will probably be going with pzero neros asap.

Agree. EL42s are unbelievably horrible. It defies logic how horrible they are.
I swear as soon! as sooon as it starts sprinkling, I can SIGNIFICANTLY feel the loss of my stopping power and even on small inclines my TL starts rolling back.
Oh my god, I can't wait to get out of these...

I took off the stock rubber in favor of Falken Ziex ZE 512.
No issues so far in the Seattle rain . . . I feel very confident behind the wheel.

When I did get caught in the rain, I dind't feel unsafe at all in the car. Just unsafe about all the idiots around me.
