Continental Extreme Contact DWS vs. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS

Any thoughts on comparison of these two tires? I'm looking to get one of the two in 245/45-17 for my 08 TL-S. (I've heard that 245 is a "better than stock" alternative to the 235's)

Price and all-weather is definitely a large consideration, but both seem about the same.

Thanks....

I think the current Bridgestone Potenza Pole Positions are the RE970AS, so the RE960AS models (except run-flats) should be on sale if they aren't out of stock.

Tirerack.com has its test results for the RE970AS, Conti DWS, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season and Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season at: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=165.

I know most people here like the DWS. I for one, hated them and they only last me 19k miles. I'd go with the Potenzas

what about Nitto Motivos ?? I am also due for a new set of tires, had the bridgestones RE960 pole position and was satisfied with them but would like to change it up. I was thinking of the DWS but the motivos seem to be getting a lot of good reviews and they are a little cheaper too. I need 255/40/18

What you might want to do is decide what factors are most important to you and rank them that way. For me road noise, tread life and all-weather incl snow traction were the most important considerations. I don't like running snow tires so finding a tire that can "do it all" very well was nice. That's why I pick DWS for the last 4 sets of tires I've purchased and haven't regretted it.
Take a look at the surveys and it may make it easier for you to choose.

I remember hitting one a few weeks ago, yeah.

This sucks! I guess I'm going to get new tires after work now. Quoted $750 for 4xPotenza RE970AS at Firestone...ouch

yeah it always sucks to be forced to buy something when your not ready. at least you didn't bend or crack a rim. if you go with the 245's you'll get a little better sidewall protection though.

dws's have soft sidewalls. It's nice for comfort and road noise but not too great for handling ability.

Yeah, seems to me that the RE970AS is the way to go, just sucks they are so expensive.

Purchased the RE970s about a month ago....nice ride, love how the grip the ground on corners....Had the 960s loved those except for the occasional flattening in the winter when tires were low. I'm hoping these don't do that...

I've had DWS tires for almost 3 full seasons. Very good overall tire. No issues with soft sidewalls or flat-spotting.
